Next week we have a Zoom presentation by Guy Edwardes. when he will be giving his talk: 30 Years of Landscape and Nature Photography.
Guy last spoke to us in 2020 and this is an updated presentation showing some of Guy's favourite images taken throughout his 30-year career as a nature and landscape photographer, including some of the techniques he uses to capture them.

I don't normally include reviews of past meetings, but the Barry Mead Retrospective is worthy of being an exception. We were treated to a great selection of Barry's prints, shown and described by John Chamberlin and Pete McCloskey in a way that only friends would be able to do. I'm obviously not the only one to think it was a great evening, and I reproduce below, some of the comments received from Zoom viewers during the evening:

- Fantastic photographer - a huge inspiration to my Dad!
- Paula, Ollie & Anne - Barry was lovely man and it was a privilege to have known both him and you Anne

An evening that was a true tribute to a great photographer and BPS member and I'm sure Barry would have been pretty chuffed with the "show".

You will probably notice that there isn't a lot in this week's edition of the newsletter - either I'm beginning to suffer from brain fade or there just isn't anything out there to report. Either way, contributions from the membership would be greatly appreciated - so, if you have anything that you think might be of interest to your fellow BPS members or you want to claim bragging rights to some competition/exhibition success, then please let me know at bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk and I'll see about putting your words and/or images into print. If you include images, can you please make sure that they are jpegs, size not really important. |
A warm welcome to all the members of the 2026 Photography Course, we hope that you thoroughly enjoy the course and that you will avail yourselves of your membership of the Bristol Photographic Society, where you are welcome to attend any of the Wednesday meetings.
We are a pretty easy-going bunch, but there is one rule that we ALL must stick to, and that is where we can and, more importantly, where we cannot park. Below is an aerial photo of the estate, showing in red the areas where we cannot park, and the yellow areas where we can park at any time. Parking in all other areas should be done with consideration given to the property owners - if the property is obviously being used, then please do not park in front of that unit.

Distinctions Advisory Group |
Next meeting – 7.30pm, Monday 28 September.
The next meeting of the Distinctions Advisory Group is on Monday 28 September.
The group basically meets to offer advice to members who are aiming for, or planning to aim for, RPS, WPF, IPF or PAGB distinctions, but anyone aiming for a photographic distinction is welcome.
If you are already well on the way down your chosen path or just thinking about dipping your toe in the murky waters of photo distinctions, you will be welcome. Bring along your pictures (PDI or prints) and you can receive suggestions and advice about your next step forward, or just come along for general distinctions advice.
IMPORTANT
In order to determine whether it is viable to run the meeting on the 28th, the leaders need to know how many people are likely to attend. If you plan to join the meeting, or have any questions about the group, would you please email Pete McCloskey pmccloskey11@btinternet.com to let him know. |
