Newly Released Teachings, Dharma Resources, News
Dear Shedrub Mandala Sangha,

We hope this message finds you and your loved ones well. Though much in the world has slowed down in the face of these difficult times, activity continues to unfold within Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche’s Shedrub Mandala. Rinpoche’s students continue developing our Gomde Centers and Dharma Houses, serving our local communities, translating the Buddhist teachings, studying Buddhism online at RYI, and studying and practicing dharma at our monastery and nunnery in Nepal, at our international centers (for those who reside there), and in our own homes across the world. In short, together we all continue to carry out a multitude of profoundly beneficial dharma activities, all with Rinpoche’s blessings and guidance.

We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some resources that are being made available to support your personal dharma study and practice during this time, as well as some news about beneficial activities that are taking place within our Mandala.

Shedrub Mandala Online Dharma Resources

During this time of increased uncertainty all over the world Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche has said that it is very important for us to spend time receiving teachings. With these instructions in mind, and with the knowledge that many of us are now in quarantine at home, we are making a collection of teachings available for you on Shedrub.org. Many of these videos, which include teachers from across our entire mandala, have never been publicly released.

These videos include dharma talks by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Khenpo Tokpa Tulku, Lama Tenzin Sangpo, Lama Tsultrim Sangpo, as well as talks on Buddhist topics given by professors connected with the Rangjung Yeshe Institute in Nepal. Spanning the range of formal Dharma instruction and academic talks, this is a valuable collection of Dharma resources for your continued study at this time.

We also want to take this opportunity to remind you that there are already a wealth of other talks already available on DharmaSun.org and RYI.org. While most of these talks and teachings are in English or with English translation, the offerings in the new Shedrub Online Dharma Resources page include talks in Tibetan, and talks with Nepali, Spanish, and German translation. You can also find additional talks on DharmaSun with translation into Russian, Spanish, Nepali, German, and Chinese.

Over time, more teachings will be made available on DharmaSun.org and RYI.org. In order to notify you of new releases, we will update the Shedrub website and inform you via email. Please subscribe to our newsletter at shedrub.org/connected to receive updates about Shedrub Mandala activities. If you would like to receive updates specifically about the newly released teachings as these come out, be sure to click “Online Dharma” when you subscribe to the newsletter, to indicate that you want to receive these updates.

Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen’s Social Work during the Nepal Lockdown

Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen, Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling’s social work division, is performing the important work of nourishing local people and animals in Kathmandu during the Nepal lockdown. With the help of the monks of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling and lay volunteers from our local community, Shenpen is providing direct food aid to the families of daily wage earners who have lost their main source of income during the lockdown, as well as providing food and water to street animals who are hungry and thirsty while the streets of Kathmandu are empty of people. You can find out more information about these recent efforts on Shenpen’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rangjungyesheshenpen/. Please take a broader look at this compassionate work by visiting the Shenpen website, where you can also donate to support Shenpen’s activity: http://www.shenpennepal.org/

Rangjung Yeshe Institute Summer Study Online

Like many educational institutions the world over, Rangjung Yeshe Institute shifted to an online format in the middle of our Spring Semester. Students will complete their semester at the end of April, with a number of BA and MA students slated to graduate this year.

Given the current circumstances, Rangjung Yeshe Institute will not be holding our usual Summer Program on the RYI campus at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery in Nepal. Instead, RYI is now planning to offer some summer courses in an online format. To gauge interest in the courses, RYI has put together a short survey. If you would be interested in studying online with RYI this summer, please fill out this short survey, so that RYI can get a better sense of what type of online courses students are interested in, and can contact you via email once we are ready to announce our online summer course offerings.

Ngakso Drubchen at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling

While Ka-Nying Shedrub Monastery remains completely closed to outside visitors during the lockdown in Nepal, a group of our monks recently completed the nine-day Annual Ngakso Drubchen.  The Nepal lockdown and sealing-off of the monastery for health and safety reasons provided the circumstances for this drubchen to be performed at our monastery for the first time in a very traditional way—with a completely closed retreat-like boundary.

The drubchen went exceptionally well. Our monks made prayers for those who have lost their lives in the current coronavirus pandemic, for those who are suffering with illness, for peace and prosperity in the world, and for the awakening of all beings.

Retreat in Gomde Pyrenees

A group of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche’s students are currently in the middle of a three-month retreat under the guidance of Lama Tenzin Sangpo at Gomde Pyrenees.  This special retreat provides a rare opportunity for the fortunate retreatants to focus on dharma practice in the beautiful environment of the French Pyrenees. High above the sea beside snow-capped mountains, the cherry trees are now blooming on the modest hills that surround the center. There, twenty-eight retreatants are diligently practicing, dedicating the merit of their practice, and making prayers for all beings.
