ALEC is in our Ohio Senate again,
this time to turn protestors into felons

We now have a bill, SB 250, in process to suppress protesting in Ohio.  It will increase penalties for protests, including turning many misdemeanor offenses into felonies!

This bill was created by State Senator Frank Hoagland, who holds a Top Secret security clearance, and owns two private security firms that provide specialized services to national security, law enforcement, and private entities.  It has the boot prints of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) behind it.

The fight is ongoing, to get the Lake Erie Bill of Rights on the ballot

Read the Toledo Blade article by clicking HERE.

[excerpts:]
That group wants either an ordinance or whatever else the city council’s doing for the group seeking to keep the county jail downtown. At the time of that news conference, Toledoans for Safe Water thought the proposal for a special election was a done deal.

Sean Nestor, a Toledoans for Safe Water member, said it will be “a tremendous blow to democracy” if the Lake Erie Bill of Rights does not eventually go before voters.
“A lot of people are dying to have a vote on this,” he said.

The Lake Erie Bill of Rights is modeled after similar initiatives in other parts of America that assert certain ecosystems have as many “rights” as courts have given corporations.

SB 210 wants to prevent local laws that outlaw single-use plastic bags

Click the above image for more information

[Excerpt from Sierra Club page:]
Why is a bill being proposed in Ohio, a state with no current plastic-bag fees?  Because Big Oil and Gas is coming to Ohio and wants to sell plastic!  Ohio's Utica Shale region contains a vast amount of 'wet' natural gas that is perfect for making plastic pellets.  Five proposed ethane crackers are coming to the Ohio River Valley with the goal of producing 7 million metric tons of plastic pellets per year.  The future of Ohio's environemtn and human health are at great risk!
