Internet use can help Well-being
Good afternoon
It's great to be able to report some good news for a change. There are calls to place further restrictions on Internet use, particularly by young people and we seem to often hear that Internet and Social Media use can lead to depression and other negative mental difficulties.
However, a report just published by an Oxford University Professor and his team indicates that, while this is true in some cases, the vast majority of the 2.4 million people in 168 countries surveyed said that Internet use had a positive effect in their well-being.
In his report he says: "84.9% resulted in positive and statistically significant associations between internet connectivity and well-being..These results indicate that internet access and use predict well-being positively and independently from a set of plausible alternatives." "If our policy and if our resources are guided by anecdote we’re going to be letting a lot of families down”
