"I LOVE seeing the different ways everyone uses the fabrics & designs. Your newsletters and website have inspired me! Thanks!"
Jean

Hello and Welcome-
This has been a brutal winter for an overwhelming number of our readers, so I hope since it's March, that winter is beginning to loosen it's grip where YOU live! We've been very busy finishing up our next pattern, which we are previewing in this issue & since my daughter was in the process of moving to Charlotte, we've seen a good deal of our cute as pie grandson. So check him out here, to see if I'm exaggerating and then... Let's get started!
If you have comments or suggestions about our Newsletter, or if you just feel like telling us something, please feel free to do so at info@studiokatdesigns.com

Bobbin Around the Web- AmiSimms.Com
I've known of Ami Simms for quite some time, but it occurs to me, maybe you don't? She has a VERY entertaining website, full of fun stuff like 'The WORST Quilt in the World Contest', or a 'Show Me Your Stash' page, which I know  you will enjoy crusing around. Ami also has some cool patterns, like the Rag Jacket, & she sells really cool hand-dyed clothesline with which to make those little fabric bowls with. She even has a fabric-bowl tutorial which is free for the download.
And if this isn't enough to get you to check Ami out, she writes an interesting Blog and publishes a really FUN newsletter.... well maybe not as fun as mine, but then YOU be the judge!   :)

 "Handbag of the Month" Gallery-
Thanks to everyone who participated in our February contest! The winner was Cheryl McCavitt of Kansas City, MO. She wins a $20.00 SKD gift certificate and a permanent place of honor on our website. Click here to see her winning entry, a beautifully pieced DittyRoo, and before you start saying that you could never achieve a look like this, Cheryl said she followed our DittyRoo embellishing tutorial to the letter and this is what popped out!!

The March 'Handbag of the Month' contest promises to be just as exciting, so without further ado...Check out this month's nominees, then cast a vote for your favorite.

Let's kick it off with a DittyRoo that makes me long for Spring. It was made by Rachel Eby of Shelburne, VT. She said she enjoyed making it SO much that she already has plans to make an SKD bag as a birthday gift for her two grand daughters... just in case they read this, we won't say which one though.   :)

And here's our new Quattro design, captured in bold colors. It was made by Lori Gates of West Henrietta, NY and here's a closeup shot of the unique wrap-around side pockets. Great job, Lori!

Sharon Arnold of Hernando, MS said that she absolutely LOVED making her Trifecta. She'd had the pattern for ~6months with other fabric all picked out, but she was in her resource room looking for a batk and these 2 batiks jumped out & yelled "I am your Trifecta Bag!" (Good thing she listened.) Here's a peek at the interior and check out the WAY COOL key strap that Sharon made!

This Quattro looks exotic and elegant enough to be an evening bag, no? Thea McCurry of Greensburg, PA added a bit of cording to outline the front pouch-style pocket. Here's a peek at the back, which is equally beautiful!

Our first-time pattern tester, Connie Haack of Imlay City, MI made this totally unique Quattro. I bet she turns heads wherever she goes carrying this beauty!

Here's another Quattro made by Lori Gates of West Henrietta, NY. She enjoyed making and carrying the 1st sample she made so much, that she immediately made another! Beautiful!

And last, but certainly not least, we have an ecclectic, electric and certifiably elegant DittyRoo which was created by Dawn King of Hamilton, NJ. (Who knew that leopard print actually came in my favorite color, purple?) Now Dawn says that she is ready to start on her matching PortaPockets Purse Insert.

Ever go to a movie based on rave reviews from critics, only to be disappointed? Critics and audiences don't always agree, and RottenTomatoes.Com offers both sides of the story. It's easy to find the movies according to category and on each movie page, and once there, you can read a summary and reviews and watch a trailer. I've tried it, and I find these reviews to be far more accurate (at least with MY taste) than the critic reviews are.  :)

Handbag Headlines- Your Handbag, Your Self

To assess a lady's character, look no further than the handbag she carries to work. "It is an absolute indicator of who they are and what their style is," says Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist and entrepreneur. Since a purse's size and shape isn't limiting like a pair of skinny jeans, a bag is an easy way for a woman to express herself -- especially in the workplace.

Monthly Trivia-
Today is Sunday, March 6, the 66th day of 2011. (There are 300 days remaining in this year.) And just for fun, let's start off today's trivia with a question. The following individuals all share March 6th as their birthday, what else do they have in common?
  • Michelangelo
  • Ed McMahon
  • Shaquille O'Neal
  • Rob Reiner
  • Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The obvious answer is... they are all artists in their field. OK, I can see your quizzical expressions!
(I really CAN you know!) So consider this...
  • Surely it's obvious that Michelangelo and Elizabeth Barrett Browning are both artists... he being the creative genius behind the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, and she, the most prominent poet of the Victorian era,
  • Shaquille O'Neal is one of the most dominant centers in the NBA today, AND many would argue, displays HIS artistry on a basketball court.
  • Rob Reiner (otherwise known as 'Meathead' on the All in the Family TV series), is a well-respected actor and director and has chosen to feature his artistry in film.
  • and long before American Idol, there was Star Search, which was hosted by Ed McMahon. So.... in a way, we can thank Ed from initially introducing us to the undeniable artistry of these folks, whose careers were kick-started by Star Search.                                                              Alanis Morrissette, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Drew Carey, Dennis Miller, Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Kevin James, LeAnn Rimes, Phil Vassar, Sawyer Brown, Ray Ramano, Sharon Stone, Tiffany and Usher.  Amazing, isn't it?
Ok- so I guess Ed McMahon was a bit of a stretch in artist category thing, but it was kinda fun. And here's the deal. If today is also YOUR birthday, here's a great big 'Happy Birthday to YOU' from StudioKat Designs. And if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway, and I recommend you do so by checking out this year's American Idol, because so far i would have to say that this may be the most talented season yet!

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
