'No horses on Mars' INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION at Internationale Kurzfiltage Oberhausen, DE

Friday 3rd May, 13:00 hours, Lichtburg, Oberhausen

Internationale Kurzfiltage Oberhausen:
The world's oldest short film competition is a forum for experiments, unusual content and formats, and the place for cinematic discoveries, regardless of genre and production country. Every year, filmmakers from over 40 countries present themselves here. Only international festival premieres are admitted to this competition. The professional audience researches new films here, and a premiere shown in this competition is often a springboard for selection at other festivals - not least for the Oscar.

Filmmakers from all over the world are invited to present their work in person. The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen appoints its own selection committee and juries for this competition, in which the traditional Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen is awarded.

Netherlands, 2024
A vision of a daily practice of the relationship between horse and human, experienced by the horse on a journey through her world, where she is transported, sedated, treated and guided, interspersed with an unexpected bliss of being there. The horse’s POV is the most effective element of the film. The human is introduced as a screen viewer who follows, measures and records her as an object.

Bea de Visser’s provocative ‘Blowup’ (2022) show close-ups with stuttering edits add a jarring and sometimes repulsive intimacy to the innocent rituals of small girls blowing bubblegum.
4 Girls and 4 pieces of chewing gum together make a world of difference in terms of seduction, dirtiness, emotion, sensitivity, sweetness, playfulness, innocence, color, smell and bewilderment. The scene is uncultivated, incorrupt, unsolved, invincible, unsurpassed and is almost unbearably beautiful and meant to stay on the retina forever and meant to stay on the retina forever.
