Situations Vacant
The Society does not run itself, it survives because of the hard work of a small band of willing volunteers (mainly BPS Council). However, from time to time vacancies occur for important posts that need filling to ensure the smooth and continued running of BPS. Below are two such vacancies that need filling now:
COULD YOU BE A BPS FIRST AIDER?

Do you hold a current, recognised first-aid certificate? We are looking for one or two trained First Aiders to help keep everyone using the BPS clubroom safe.

The role will include providing first aid when required, checking first-aid supplies and recording incidents appropriately.

If you would like to help or find out more, please contact me, Pete Howell, by email at pete@bristolphoto.org.uk.

NEWSLETTER EDITOR

The position of BPS Newsletter Editor is about to become vacant. The present incumbent of this prestigious role, namely me, has done the job since 2012 producing 700 editions and it now seems, with this milestone having been reached, to be the ideal time to hand over the reins to someone else.

If you feel that you could take on this important club role, please drop me a line at bpsnewsletter@bristolphto.org.uk and I will be able to fill you in in greater detail as to what the job entails.

GWPE - Judging Weekend
The selection for the GWPE takes place over 3 days starting this Friday, 16 October. It is not "hush hush" how the process works and anyone can come and watch the selectors in action. No need to stay for the entire process but it will give you an idea of how "Salons" are implemented and the work needed to organise one.

Prints on Friday and PDI on Saturday and Sunday - scheduled start time of 10am.

All we ask is that the audience is quiet during the scoring with no "secondary" judging taking place. Bring some food if you want to make a day of it!

The more the merrier 🙂

Note from Ed: If attending, please be careful when parking not to park in front of any premises that are obviously open/working.

PDI Competition - Round 2 - CLOSING DATE
Advanced warning - the closing date for Round 2 of the Projected Image Competition is 28 October. The prescribed topic will be Landscape. The judge for this round is Tony Oliver ARPS CPAGB BPE5* from the Southern Counties Federation. You can see some of Tony's work by visiting his website - https://www.aropics.com/

The Prescribed topic matches the latest theme in the APOY - see later in this issue.

You can upload your entry any time between now and midnight on the 2nd by following this link: https://compent.photoentry.uk/compent/

Print Competitions - Update
At the last BPS Council Meeting the decision was taken to change the rules for print entries that relate to the labelling of prints. For all future print competition entries, you will no longer be required to quote your membership number, instead you will be required to label your entry with your name. To this end, the print labels have been updated, and the revised labels can be downloaded by following these links:
This change does not affect entries already submitted for Round1 of the 2026-27 Print Competition

General Information
A couple of "general" items:

ZOOM MEETINGS
If you do not have sound or vision when logging into a Zoom meeting, please don't shout across the airwaves - it doesn't sound very professional if we get a series of angry voices bellowing through the clubroom speakers, especially if we have an external speaker or judge. Instead, use the in-meeting Zoom chat feature, which allows you to send instant messages to the host, to all meeting participants, a private message to an individual participant, or a sub-group chat to multiple participants. Users can create a new chat by clicking the chat icon at the bottom of the screen and selecting the participant's name or multiple participant names. In the case of messages to report problems, send you message to the Host. For more information on messaging in Zoom, click on this LINK.
