Pentatonic scales, inca voices, psychedelic sounds - if you ask the legendary group Los Wembler's de Iquitos where they found their inspiration for their new album, "Vision del Ayahuasca", they will tell you about their beginnings, fifty years ago, in their native city of Iquitios, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.
The last album "Vision del Ayahuasca" goes back to the origins of the band, oscillating between their love of tropical dance music and loud guitar rock rooted in late 60’s psychedelia.
"Vision del Ayahuasca" should further their legacy as pioneers -- not only of chicha and psychedelic cumbia -- but as a musicians who are finally getting their place in the worldwide pantheon of influential artists. Los Wembler’s, the legendary band from Iquitos, the capital of the Amazon in Peru. The five Sanchez Brothers who make up the band are Amazonian Cumbia pioneers who played an essential part in launching the Chicha explosion of the 1970’s. The band were responsible for some of the first hits of the psychedelic cumbia genre - including the iconic “Sonido Amazonico” and “Danza del Petrolero”, two titles co-opted (stolen claim Los Wemblers..) by popular band Los Mirlos. Los Wembler’s became widely popular in the Peruvian Amazon and for a dozen years and criss-crossed the region, with forays into neighboring Brazil and Colombia. Los Wembler's waited close to fifty years to enjoy international success. Their recent showcase at WOMEX 2019, a gathering of international music professionals, was a resounding success.
