Ramblings from Ross...

Only 3 rehearsals down and we're already making some beautiful sounds together!

The schedule for the semester was passed out at our last rehearsal. Hard copies will be available again this Monday, and the online version is available here.

Our first "church gig" is coming right up: 3/23 at the First Baptist Church. Please mark your calendars and make every effort to be there...the more folks singing the better we sound! The pieces we will plan on performing are "Dona, Dona" and "Sesere Eeye."

See you Monday!

Sherrie's Soliloquy...
Another great rehearsal. I am happy with our membership numbers and our enthusiasm.
I hope you all enjoy your time with VOICES. Please don't underestimate the value of using the practice recordings that Mike so kindly creates and posts to our website. They can truly help if you find yourself wanting some extra practice time to supplement our regular Monday evenings.
See you all soon

Musing from Mike...
It Takes a Village (or at least a chorus)
VOICES very purposely keeps the focus of our time together on the joy of singing. There are, however, many roles and tasks that need to be covered to allow us to relax and make music. These include ongoing leadership roles as well as many simple, one-time tasks. At the next rehearsal, an inventory of volunteer roles and tasks will be distributed. This should help explain what it takes to provide the VOICES experience. We hope you will consider ways you might help, sharing your talents and interests.

How Many and Who Are We?
As of last rehearsal we have 36 members, typical of late for a spring semester as we lose a few to warmer venues for the winter. We don’t distribute a roster because of privacy concerns. If you wish to reach someone, I can forward your request: musicinfo@acithaca.org

Practice Tracks...
Practice tracks (https://acithaca.org/groups/voices/music-files-for-practice/) by vocal part are available at the Voices website for all but one of our songs for the semester.  Mistakes do creep in during the creation of these files, so please note any you find and communicate which song, track, and measure(s) need correction.  If you can specify the correction (e.g., missing note tie, wrong note, etc.), even better. Send corrections to voicesmusic@acithaca.org

Always Bring a Pencil...
We are Learning! There will be notes and corrections by the Director during rehearsal and perhaps new insights as you practice.  You may lightly mark your scores with a pencil - not a pen, marker or highlighter.  Keep the pencil in the pocket of your music folder so it does not get misplaced.

Vocal Exercises and WarmUps...
Looking for a way to exercise your voice between rehearsals? Cyberbass is free website that has sizeable list of vocal warmups that play on your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can also purchase CD's with various exercises and warmups if you choose.  Go to

Nonconsensual Olfactory Overload...
Some members are allergic to perfumes, colognes, essential oils and other scents and they experience respiratory discomfort if exposed to them. And they will be! We sit close close together and breathe deeply at rehearsal and concerts. Please refrain from wearing them.

About this Newsletter...
The Voices Newsletter is sent out every Thursday during the semester.  Sometimes, it may be a day late depending on glitches and brain cramps.  In normal times, it will appear in your email in-basket sometime during the day on Thursday.  It will also be posted on the website - click HERE to go to that page.

If you have a question about Voices, a comment or suggestion about the newsletter, or if you have an item for the newsletter (items should be related to the chorus or the local musical community), send it to voicesnews@acithaca.org.   PLEASE - if you have an item that you want to appear in the newsletter, send in in plain text completed form so we can copy and paste - we do not write material for you.
