The last movement of A Sea Symphony, "The Explorers," feels like an epic journey both lyrically and musically. From sad, yearning hearts to anchors aweigh! Parts of that movement are just so exhilarating! Very challenging too… I especially need to work on that “Away! Away! Away” section. But there are no 65 people I’d rather be on this epic journey with than all of you!
I hope you take to heart my message of last evening that your chorus needs your help. Maybe a lot of help from a few of you and just once in a while help from many of you. Stay tuned for volunteering opportunities as the weeks and semesters pass, and plug in when you can. Thanks!
In answer to the question, “If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?”, here are what some of your fellow choristers responded:
Ron Trunzo Fauré Requiem
Marilyn Crooker Verdi Requiem- final movement
Linda Duttweiler Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio
No name! (who are you?) Steely Dan "Reelin’ In The Years"
Ron Harris-Warrick Les Barricades Mystérieuses by Couperin
Bill Cowdery Bach Mass in B Minor (BWV 232)
Janie Leff Mozart’s Requiem
Betsy C "The Long and Winding Road"
While I am typing these I listen to at least a portion of each response. What an amazing collection of personal favorites! When you have time, expand your musical horizon and listen!
I’ll leave you with one of my most beloved quotes of all time:
“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” ~T.S. Eliot
Yay Ithaca! There’s no place like home. See you next week.
