ZIMMERMAN FREE VOTE SUPPORT WELCOMED
LIBERALS WILL BE HELD TO ACCOUNT IF REFORM DOES NOT OCCUR BEFORE ELECTION

"Time has run out for Peter and Bon and it is rapidly running out for Liberals who support marriage equality."
- Rodney Croome

Equality advocates have welcomed Liberal MP, Trent Zimmerman's, support for a free vote on marriage equality but have warned Government members who support marriage equality will be "held to account" if there is no progress before the next election.

Today Mr Zimmermann reaffirmed his previously stated support for a free vote in response to bereaved same-sex partner, Peter de Waal, saying he holds gay Liberal MPs accountable for the fact he and his late partner of 50 years, Peter (Bon) Bonsall-Boone, were not able to marry before Bonsall-Boone died a few days ago.

Just.equal spokesperson and long-time marriage equality advocate, Rodney Croome said,

"I welcome Trent Zimmerman's re-affirmation of his support for a free vote very soon, and urge his colleagues who also support marriage equality to follow suit."

"Liberals who support marriage equality should repudiate a plebiscite, call for a for a free vote now, and actively work to make it a reality."

"All those Liberals who support marriage equality will be held to account at the next election if marriage equality does not pass in this term of government."

"Time has run out for Peter and Bon and it is rapidly running out for Liberals who support marriage equality."
