EGYPT TOUR FEBRUARY 2020

FROM THE ASHES OF ANGELS BANNED!!
Big story breaking in my life. My classic book From the Ashes of Angels has just been banned from sale and circulation in Turkey. Apparently, the book was given to a "prisoner" in a jail as a gift. It was immediately confiscated and a case brought against it by the Turkish high court. Their verdict - it is a book that sympathises with the cause of the PKK, the Kurdish Workers Party, classed as a terrorist organization. Why was the book banned? Because its dedication is to the Kurdish people as the keepers of the Garden of Eden and the cradle of civilization. Plus it clearly refers to Kurds and Kurdistan in connection with southeastern Anatolia. The book was originally published as a Turkish language edition by the publisher Avesta in 2002 and has been incredibly popular there through to the present day. It provides an insight into the origins of civilization, the Watchers, Nephilim and Anunnaki from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic culture of Anatolia and the Near East through the angel-worshipping religions like the Yezidi and Yarasan.
The situation is grave for me for it now means there is every chance I will be arrested if I set foot on Turkish soil.
What is so ironic about this ban is that it was the publication of From the Ashes of Angels in Turkey in 2002 that gained me an invite to a major cultural festival in Diyarbakir in 2004 that permitted me not only to visit Gobekli Tepe, Harran and Karahan Tepe for the first time, but also to write books such as Gobekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods and The Cygnus Mystery.
My contributions to the origins of Turkish and Kurdish culture were recognised back then as enriching our knowledge of the past. No longer, I'm afraid. Today they are deemed to be adding to a view of prehistory contrary to the religious fundamental stance of Turkey at this time.
THROWN OUT OF GOBEKLI TEPE!!
Since I am now persona non grata in Turkey, and shan't be visiting there any time soon, I can now tell you what really happened at Gobekli Tepe when I visited there with a multi-national tour group in October 2018. We were harassed, hounded and abused by the security staff of site manager and lead archaeologist Dr Lee Clare. He screamed at me to get out of the site and that "we don't want your lies and pseudoscience here". This is recorded on film. I was twice told by him to leave immediately. All our party were shadowed thereafter until they left, the security not leaving us alone until we were on the bus away from the site.
Everyone was traumatised by this shocking incident and one of the group had a seizure and collapsed immediately afterwards.
Our tour guide had to intervene to prevent me from being arrested by the military police, simply for being there.
The crime for this disgusting treatment?? Writing Gobekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods, which in its Turkish language edition has been a bestseller in Turkey and is freely available in all state museum bookshops.
What offended Dr Lee Clare? All of it. I should not have been writing about Gobekli Tepe. Period. To him it is all " lies and pseudoscience".
I also found I was on a black list circulated to archaeological sites.
On my return to the UK I attempted to go through the British Foreign Office to establish what this black list was, who implemented it and for how long it would be enforced.
Working through my local MP, I was stone walled at every corner. Finally, I was told that the British Government could do nothing to influence the decisions of a foreign government like Turkey.
Interestingly, I was contacted after this awful incident by a Turkish tour guide who witnessed everything that happened that day. He apologised to me on behalf of the Turkish people and explained that this new attitude was part of an endemic change in policy going on right now in his country. It concerns the way sites like Gobekli Tepe are being presented by the world media. There are many individuals in the Turkish government who hate the idea that Gobekli Tepe is being presented by the likes of myself as the world's first temple. This does not fit with their religious views and they are trying to do what they can to present it not as a temple but as a domestic dwelling.
Anyway, books like Gobekli Tepe; Genesis of the Gods just do not fit into Turkey's harsh religious outlook on the past, a situation that may have contributed to the way our tour group was treated by Lee Clare and his security staff.
The more detailed version of this story goes as follows:
Following my post yesterday about the despicable manner myself and a tour group were treated at Gobekli Tepe by site manager and lead archaeologist, Dr Lee Clare, some of you raised the question of what Dr Clare has to say about what happened? The answer is silence. Not a word.
However, what I can tell you is that before our arrival at the site I had messaged Dr Clare telling him that I would be arriving with a tour group and that perhaps, if he was there, he would come out and say hello.
You see, prior to this time I had had some communication with him on certain matters relating to the site. So I assumed he would be interested in at least shaking my hand and welcoming our tour group (as Dr Klaus Schmidt would do when he was alive). How wrong could I have been. Immediately our tour group arrived they became aware that they were being shadowed by security men, who stuck close to them. Then as our people tried to get pictures through the stupid bars and temporary tarpaulin roof that obscure clear observation of the stone enclosures they were instantly set upon in an almost threatening manner. This continued until with some of the group the harrassment became too much. They started questioned what was going on, and why they were being targeted when other visitors to the site weren't.
Then it became apparent that this situation was being orchestrated by an Englishman who was now shouting at a couple of members of our group. As host I approached to intervene, I realised only at this point that this was Dr Lee Clare. I held out my hand to shake his, but he recoiled backwards screaming at me and others around me. That's right, he would not even shake my hand. He then continued his tirade, saying to me that "we don't want your lies and pseudoscience here," by which I can only assume he meant the contents of my book Gobekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods.
By the way, almost all you read here was recorded on camera serendipitously by one of the group who simply left their camera running. From then on the situation got worse as I was asked to leave the site immediately. I decided to simply ignore this request, but was again approached by Clare and his henchmen. He was now becoming even more angry by both my presence, and that of the tour group. Remember, we were here simply as tourists, like any of the other visitors seeing the site that day.
If Clare has anything on me at all it would be responding to the requests of tour guests, asking me to explain aspects of the site, which I did freely, my voice attracting the attention of other visitors, who stopped to listen to what I had to say (well, I am an expert on this site, having first come here as far back as 2004, and having first written about Anatolia's Pre-Pottery Neolithic culture in From the Ashes of Angels, published in 1996).
Clare asked me again to leave, and so I slowly made my way back to the entrance with security men and Clare tailing me. Security guards shadowed other members of the tour group, some noticing that their conversations were apparently being recorded. Even as we awaited the minibus back to the visitor's centre, the security men stood right by us waiting for us to leave. The military police had been notified of the situation, and were poised to intervene - a situation necessitating the intervention of our Turkish tour guides to ensure that I was not arrested.
In retrospect, it was clear that Dr Lee Clare was waiting for our tour group, ready to intervene the moment it arrived, me having innocently alerted him to the fact that we would be there that day.
A second visit to Gobekli Tepe had been planned for the following day. However, I felt the best option was for me not to go as this would only escalate the situation. Tour guests were given the option of returning on their own, and some did. They were again shadowed, although because I was not there, it was milder this time.
One our our guests was actually approached by a German archaeologist (I will not reveal her expertise). She asked him if he was with "Andrew Collins's group". He hesitantly said he was. She then proceeded to apologise on behalf of Lee Clare and the other archaeologists at the site saying that she did not agree with Dr Clare's actions, instead saying that everyone was entitled to their views and opinions of the site. She said she had read my book "Gobekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods" and had found it interesting. This reaction had been quite unexpected, but was graciously received. So, let's make this clear. The actions of Dr Lee Clare are not unamimous among the archaeologists of the German Archaeological Institute, who work alongside the Turkish authorities excavating Gobekli Tepe.
This is an important point to know.
I wish them all the best with their future excavations at the site, which is proving to be one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the last 100 years.

THE GENESIS OF COSMOLOGY - A LEGACY OF THE DENISOVANS?
Who built Göbekli Tepe, and when and why was it constructed? Andrew Collins - author of the seminal work Göbekli Tepe: Genesis of the Gods - conjures a picture of the genesis of Göbekli Tepe in 9600 BCE, explaining its suspected function as a shamanic point of access to a sky world built in response to the terrifying events of the Younger Dryas comet impact event. Yet who built Göbekli Tepe will be a much longer road to travel - one that begins much farther east in what is today Siberia and Mongolia at the time of humanity's first encounters with the mysterious form of archaic human known today as the Denisovans. Andrew introduces the extraordinarily advanced world of the Denisovans, which included beautiful jewellery, tailored clothing, musical instruments, suspected horse domestication, and, most crucially, the development of a unique stone tool technology that emerges for the first time around 45,000 years ago and will come to define the Upper Paleolithic tool kit right down the age of Göbekli Tepe. Beyond this, Andrew speculates on the unique and possibly autistic mindset of the Denisovans, and demonstrates how they might well have been responsible for humanity's obsession with cyclic time and a common death journey involving the stars of Orion, the Pleaides and the Cygnus constellation.
