Walla Walla, WA Derby
by Frank O'Leary
The Western Region’s second test of the year took place in Walla Walla, WA, on May 12th. Dogs from California, British Columbia, and Washington competed in the event. The weekend got underway with a Social Hour and bar-b-que at the O’Leary’s attended by leaders, judges, and helpers.
Judges for the Derby were Jörg Kaltenegger, Test Director, from Clairsville, OH; Francois Aldrich, Senior Judge, from Crownville, MD; and Mark Peasley from San Carlos, CA. The Zuchtschau Formwertrichers were Francois Aldrich and Jörg Kaltenegger, both are Spezialzuchtrichter VDH.
In the Derby three of the dogs received
Prize 1. Ungaro vom Trocken Bach leader/owner Frank O’Leary; Ussa vom Trocken Bach leader/owner Denver Hodges; and Uschka vom Trocken Bach leader/owner Gil Dueck. All three received perfect scores in all categories. Ingolf vom Canuck leader/owner Rafael Aguilar received a
Prize 3. The work of the Prize 1 dogs was impressive especially when you considered they were eleven months old.
Pierre, South Dakota
The DKV will be holding the North America Kurzhaar Prüfung, in Pierre, SD, November 8 – 11, 2018. This international event (equivalent to the IKP held in Europe) is held every two years and is only test of its kind held in North America. This is a DKV event being hosted by the CDKA.
The activities for the test will be centered around Pierre, SD. In addition to the field and water work there will be a breed show, receptions, judges seminar, and dinners. The Test Director will come from Germany as will a number of the Judges and we are told there will be a number of dogs also making the trip.
It is worth pointing out that pheasant season in South Dakota starts the last week of October. You can participate in the NAKP and have a SD Pheasant hunting trip all at once.
For information regarding the necessary qualifications to enter and the event itself go to www.cdka.us and click on the NAKP link.
