Leith Hill Action Group – Newsletter 23 (29th November 2013)

Stop the Leith Hill oil drilling!

This newsletter is a good news newsletter!

Heart of the Community award

We told you in the last newsletter that we had won one of the Heart of the Community Awards, but we didn’t know which one.  Well, we found out last night that we came top of our category!  That means we have won a fantastic £2,500!  Thank you so much to all you wonderful people that sent in text votes and posted off your coupons to vote for LHAG.  It was all worthwhile.  What a fabulous result and one that we thought was worthy of a team photo to show off our award and mega-cheque!

Fundraising events

Since the last newsletter, two more fundraising events were held – a snooker and bar games evening and a bridge tea.

We have to say an enormous thank you to everyone that organised the snooker and bar games evening and helped make the night such a success, to all those who attended and to those who donated raffle prizes.  Great fun was had by all and an amazing £1,160 was raised for LHAG in the process. What a result!

Another wonderful time was had by all those who took part in the bridge afternoon.  Thanks go to all those who organised it, helped out and who took part, thereby helping to raise a wonderful £380 towards the fighting fund.

And finally, a reminder of our next fundraising event, which is coming up very soon: the black tie dinner in Coldharbour on Saturday 7th December. Tickets are advance purchase only (£35 per head) so if you haven’t yet booked, or you have friends who’d like to come and you need to secure them a ticket, please do so before our cut-off date of midnight this coming Sunday, 1st December. We still have around 10 tickets available. Email lhag@hotmail.co.uk to book.  The evening promises to be great fun, with live classical music, after-dinner fun and games and delicious homemade food, including the main course cooked by the talented chefs at the Parrot Inn.

You can find further details on our fundraising page.

Fundraising position

All of that wonderful news, plus the ongoing generosity of our supporters, means that the fundraising total to date stands at a whopping £24,255!  The target is in sight and our totalizer is hotting up!

Legal battles are costly affairs however, and so we would like to have a contingency in the account in case of overrun on the fees.  We won’t therefore be stopping our fundraising efforts even when we have hit our target, so please keep your donations coming in.

Thanks for reading this latest newsletter, which we hope has brought a smile to your face with all the good news.
