Tip of the Week

      Did you know....

The note business is a "process of elimination" game.  When a note holder contacts you, your goal is to eliminate the masses that are not interested and follow up with the ones that are so that you are only prospecting to qualified note holders.

Opinion has caused more trouble on this little earth than plagues or earthquakes.

President's Corner

The etiquette tip for this week is to focus on the face, not the screen.  It's hard not to be distracted in the note business these days. We have a plethora of devices to keep us occupied; emails and phone calls come through at all hours; and we all think we have to multitask to feel efficient and productive.  But that's not true: When you're in a meeting or listening to someone speak, turn off the phone. Don't check your email. Pay attention and be present.  When I was at this year’s Paper Source Note Symposium,  I couldn’t help noticing that over half of the attendees were attached to their cell phones, constantly checking the influx of alerts. But my good friend and top note investor rarely used his. He was present and was never distracted in the break out rooms or in the hallway or networking functions with associates. And it didn't make him any less of a success. Remember, Success Demands Action! Keep on marketing, it’s going to work! TWITA!

The Three P's

Patience, Persistence and Perspiration is a powerful combination in staying motivated, marketing the note business and for ultimate long term success.  As has been stated in works ranging from the Shakespeare to the Beatles, there is a time for every purpose. Sometimes the best course is to persist and push through the obstacle with some perspiration (hard work) and sometimes the best course is to apply a little dose of patience...Read More...

Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

Not wanting to fill up your inbox unnecessarily, I have kept my communication to a minimum, and haven't really followed up on quotes and prices you have given to me consistently. I hope this didn't appear ill-mannered! Naturally, I would welcome frequent communication with you, especially the opportunity to discuss details of each deal I'm working on. At the same time I understand you're busy and that your time is valuable, so would not wish to impose.  When I get a quote from you would you like acknowledgement and follow up?

                                                                                             ~ Mark

Hi Mark!

Great Question! Follow up is always appreciated by note investors. I personally would always like to know if the prices I gave were accepted or not and why rather than just assuming that they were not accepted when I do not hear back from brokers. Knowing why certain prices or options were not accepted actually helps us for future transactions. Was our competitions price a lot higher? Did another investor give you a different option that the seller accepted? Was the seller just curious? Did the seller have a real need? etc... Hope this helps!

                                                                                       ~ Jeff
