COSMIC News, August 2014
COSMIC is a voluntary, world-wide grouping of software metrics experts. Started in 1998, COSMIC has developed the most advanced method of measuring a functional size of software.

The method is easy to learn and simple to use. The method is entirely open. All method documentation is available in the public domain for free download.

COSMIC Annual Report 2013
Like a true multinational it took us a while to compile our annual report, but finally it's ready. We gave it the title:

Accelerating use throughout the world

The year 2013 has shown further great progress in the acceptance and development of the COSMIC method. If 2012 was the year in which acceptance of the method ‘took off’, then 2013 was the year in which its acceptance continued to climb steeply – see the statistics in this report.

We also made substantial progress in the development of 4.0 version of the method, which was published in 2014, and in the creation of new guides.

The progress we see in the acceptance and use of the COSMIC method varies from country to country. Therefore we have asked our International Advisory Council representatives to share some of the highlights of COSMIC use and acceptance in their country.

You can download the Annual Report from our SlideShare account.

COSMIC use throughout the world
COSMIC on SlideShare.net
COSMIC has opened an account on SlideShare. Our aim is to publish presentations on COSMIC in any language in that account. Do you have presentations in any language that you want to share with the whole COSMIC community, send them to Frank Vogelezang and he will make sure it is made available on SlideShare.

In this way we want to make the COSMIC method easily available to a wide audience.
COSMIC on the IWSM Mensura conference
On October 6-8 the IWSM Mensura conference will be held in Rotterdam. During this conference many research developments on COSMIC will be presented. In total six papers that are focussed around COSMIC will be presented.

If you want a comprehensive update on version 4.0 you can start the conference by attending the COSMIC Masterclass. This year the conference has a diverse workshop program of 8 workshops.

Alexandre Oriou from Renault will give the Monday keynote on how they use COSMIC to manage the automotive embedded software development cost and productivity with automated measurement.

On Monday afternoon there will be an open COSMIC meeting with IAC members and all those who are interested in COSMIC developments.
Entry-level certification exam
Also during the IWSM Mensura conference there will be a COSMIC Entry-level certication exam on Tuesday, October 7 in Rotterdam.  More info on the exam

Currently we are testing the new COSMIC version 4.0 exam and when these tests are in order, this will be the first public version of the COSMIC version 4.0 exam.
COSMIC in the US
We are looking to create a directory of COSMIC users that are based in the US, so we can begin networking and sharing COSMIC experiences.
It is envisioned that we would meet, via conference call, on a periodic basis, perhaps quarterly. During that call, users can share experiences they have had in the use of COSMIC. More importantly, this time together could be used to discuss ways in which we could advance the use of COSMIC in the US.
If you would please forward the following information to David Herron at dherron@cosmicon.com then we can start to share experiences.
  • Name
  • Location (US city)
  • Company
  • Job title
  • e-mail address
  • Phone
