September 2014 |

Welcome to the fourth issue of the GLP eNewsletter.

|
We hope you had an enjoyable summer break. The year ahead is one of change for many of us in education, which is both a challenge and a huge opportunity. We are keen to explore how we can use the changes happening in schools to find new and innovative ways of bringing global learning and understanding into the everyday lives of children in England. With the introduction of the new curriculum, this issue provides information that will help you with planning and teaching.
Global learning and the new curriculum
The curriculum links provided on the GLP website give you and your colleagues subject-specific information on how global learning can be embedded into teaching. The GLP Curriculum Framework connects up-to-date information about development issues with subject-specific knowledge, understanding, skills and pedagogical approaches. Where relevant, connections are made with the new national curriculum for Key Stages 2 and 3, or the national framework for RE. Here you will also find examples, ideas, subject exemplification and lists of recommended resources.
Tell us what’s happening in your school
A case study provided by The Lakes School, Cumbria, demonstrates how a set of SLT objectives including ‘driving an enquiry-based curriculum’ led to the establishment of a school working group and a broad engagement across teaching staff. We’d love to hear about your experiences, and to know if you’ve developed global learning resources that you’d like to share with the GLP community. Contact us at glp@pearson.com to find out how to do this.
Improvements to the GLP CPD calendar
Courses for the new academic year are available to view on the GLP website under the Calendar tab. The way in which you can search for courses has been improved. In addition to being able to search by location, you can now also search by key stage, subject, provider and cost. Looking at the titles and information displayed about each course will help you match courses to your needs.
Booking onto GLP CPD
Clicking the 'Contact provider' button on the course details page will enable you to send an enquiry email to the provider, who will contact you directly to confirm your booking. You can also search the provider’s website for more information about their organisation and what else they have on offer. Please be aware that a 10-day cancellation policy is applicable to all GLP CPD.
Opportunity to host a development organisation workshop
Oxfam (one of the GLP partners) is offering to deliver a free workshop in four GLP schools this term, exploring how International NGOs (INGOs) can support schools in the GLP. If you’re interested in hosting a workshop or would like more information please email khughes1@oxfam.org.uk. Best wishes,
Olwen Turchetta
