Mundelein Community Connection Summer Newsletter

Mundelein Community Connection (MCC) is a not for profit organization dedicated to the economic development, historic preservation and healthy community spirit of Mundelein’s central business district. Working together we provide an atmosphere where new and established businesses can grow and where families find the hometown they always wanted.

A Message from the Executive Director
The MCC Summer event season is in full swing and off to a good start!

The first event of the season, as always, was the May Park-on Park Classic Car Night. This year’s event on May 8th began the 25th year of Park-on-Park!   A beautiful evening greeted 140 classic cars from throughout Lake County and hundreds of spectators.  The second Park-on-Park followed on June 10th attracting 180+ cars and increased attendance.

Our next event was the 11th annual Mundelein Craft Beer Festival on June 8th, a partnership with Tighthead Brewing Company.   Unfortunately, attendance at this year’s event was dampened by rain; but the inclement weather was barely noticed by tour hardy guests.  The new location at Courtland Commons Park was an excellent setting for the 50 craft breweries and nearly 1,000 attendees who enjoyed local craft beers, food and music.

Our next event, the Mundelein Farmers Market opened on Saturday, June 15th at Park and Seymour Street with over 40 vendors.  The Market will continue every Saturday thru September.

There is a lot more Summer ahead.  Please visit one of the upcoming MCC events.  Follow us on Facebook and check us out at www.mundeleincommunityconnection.org.  Become an MCC member and support the growth and development of downtown Mundelein.

NorthSide Community Bank

NorthSide Community Bank, was formed in 1997 by a group of business men and women to respond to an ever-evolving market place. Its corporate offices are located in Gurnee because of its central location, diverse business market and strong mix of retail and service businesses.  Over the next 20 years, the bank added locations in Mundelein, Riverwoods and Niles.

NorthSide Community Bank’s ownership and management team is local, on purpose. They have the local market place knowledge and experience to address the customers’ needs. The bank offers a complete product line of commercial loans and services, in addition to a compliment of retail and loan products, specifically designed for the small to medium size business market. NorthSide Community Bank is well capitalized and has a lending limit in excess of $10 million.

NorthSide Community Bank’s board of directors and management have navigated through the great recession with great success. Management worked through many difficult situations and found solutions for our customers that brought stability, as well as positioning them for continued growth.

NorthSide Community Bank has been a valued MCC member and event supporter for many years.  Nancy Piasecki from the Mundelein office (800 North Rt. 83) is a Mundelein native and alumni of MHS.  She has been a director on the MCC Board from the beginning; and also serves as Treasurer of the Mundelein Vernon Hills Rotary Club.

Park-on-Park Classic Car Nights Going Strong
Park-on-Park

There are three Car Nights remaining:  August 14th and September 11th from 4 pm - 8 pm.  Food Vendors:   Smokin’ BBQ on 45 and La Mera Mera Restaurant.  Entertainment:  PhilZone (Classic Rock) July and September; DJ Eddie Rodriguez (August).

August 14th is Food Pantry Night, bring a non-perishable food item. Plus, Dash Plaques will be distributed to the first 300 cars. The July show was hampered by rain and ominous weather.  Only 70 cars attended.  However, we unveiled a new layout of sponsor cars and food vendors, which worked well.  We will keep the new layout for future shows.

Park-on-Park has always specialized in pre-1977 classic cars only.  There is currently an ongoing conversation about changing that policy for next year and expanding the range of cars to 25 years.  If you have an opinion about this, please let us know.  Email us at mundeleincc@gmail.com or stop by the MCC table at any of the remaining events and tell us what you think.

Mundelein Fine Arts Festival September 7th & 8th

Mundelein Fine Arts Festival
The 13th annual Mundelein Fine Arts Festival moves to Courtland Commons Park this year. The Arts Festival is a partnership between MCC and the Mundelein Park District. It is a juried show that showcases 50 artists in a variety of media. It is more than a show. Local musicians, tasty food, artwork displays by students from Carmel Catholic and Mundelein High School, plus free goodie bags for visitors and a relaxing atmosphere make it a unique community event.

Cash prizes are awarded for Best of Show and Best in Category (six categories). The Kirk Players will award a $500 Emerging Artist Award. Purchase Award opportunities are available to support the Arts; and Scholarship Awards are given to MHS and Carmel Catholic High School students.

Event Sponsors are still needed to underwrite the event and scholarships. Purchase Award Participants are also needed. This is a unique way to support the event and the Arts in general. You decide the amount you would like to spend. Then, during the festival, a company representative selects the artwork that matches the purchase sponsorship commitment.

For more information about the festival, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities visit www.mundeleincommunityconnection.org. Current Sponsors include: Mendez Family McDonald’s; BCU; Goldfish Swim School; Mundelein Community Bank; Gerry Brin.
