College News
On Wednesday, December 3, MSU launched its newest television ad on ESPN2 during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Notre Dame. The ad is part of a new Spartans Will campaign that will include ads during nationally televised Spartan athletic events; in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Atlanta airports; in in-flight magazines for Delta and United Airlines; and in digital and social media properties.

Rosales Receives 2014 DSJ Best Paper Award
An article by Claudia Rosales, assistant professor of supply chain management, was selected for the Decision Sciences Journal Best Paper Award for 2014. “Point-of-Use Hybrid Inventory Policies for Hospitals” appeared in the October issue of Decision Sciences Journal. The award was announced during the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute, held November 22–25 in Tampa.
Students demonstrated their creativity with business ideas spanning fields as diverse as fashion, educational technology, and urban planning at the 2014 Broad Business Pitch Competition finals, held Thursday, November 20. Winners included Emily Clark (BA Supply Chain Management ’15), Payden Myers (BA Finance ’17), Elizabeth Richter (MBA ’16), and Paul Zielinski (MBA ’15).

Hughes Named JAMS Area Editor
Doug Hughes, associate professor of marketing and leader of the Strategic Sales Institute, has been named an area editor of Journal of Academy of Marketing Science (JAMS), beginning in April 2015. He will provide additional input on editorial decisions in the areas of sales, sales management, and relationship marketing. By citation rate, JAMS is consistently ranked among the top marketing journals and is currently in the top 10 across all business journals.
Teams of Executive MBA students have invested their expertise in issues such as homelessness, hunger, and sustainable energy across the state by pairing up with local nonprofits like the Greater Lansing Food Bank, Homeless Action Network of Detroit, and Michigan Energy Options. At a social impact showcase on Saturday, November 15, the students presented posters on the results they were able to achieve for their chosen organizations.

Gast Business Library Offers Therapy Dogs during Finals
The Gast Business Library will offer time with therapy dogs for stress relief today and Tuesday, December 9, 1–3 p.m. both days in room 13. These trained, certified therapy dogs give students an opportunity to “paws” for a fun break. Thanks to the Career Services Network for its co-sponsorship.

BIF Program Announces Spring Lectures
The Broad Integrative Fellows program has announced its spring speakers. On Friday, January 23, Michael Bahr will present a lively TED-style talk titled “Thinking Outside the Box Requires a Box.” Bahr is education director of the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Registration for this event is free. Barb Cheng, CEO of ExecutiveCore, will speak on Friday, February 13, about “The Executive Mindset,” and Susan Harmeling, PhD, founder and principal of the International Case Method Institute, will speak on “Case Teaching” on Friday, March 27.

Broad Store Announces Permanent Location
The Broad Store will be moving to a new permanent location on the ground floor, under the stairwell by Starbucks. With the move, the store will offer more Broad merchandise. Hours will remain the same: Monday–Tuesday 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and Wednesday–Thursday 11 a.m.–3 p.m. during fall and spring semesters.

A paper by Sriram Narayanan, associate professor of supply chain management; Ram Narasimhan, John H. McConnell Endowed Professor of Business and University Distinguished Professor; and Tobias Schoenherr, associate professor of supply chain management, has been accepted for publication. “Assessing the Contingent Effects of Collaboration on Agility Performance in Buyer-Supplier Relationships” will appear in a forthcoming issue of Journal of Operations Management.

Clay Voorhees, associate professor of marketing, wrote “One Firm’s Loss Is Another’s Gain: Capitalizing on Other Firms’ Service Failures,” which was recently published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.
