HELEN ARNEY NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018
  • Hi! It's been a while... toddler keeping me pretty busy.
  • I've been up to lots of fun stuff, but no time to tell anyone.
  • So here's a straight-to-the-point newsletter.
  • If you're in North America, there's two bits that are just yours.
  • If you're anywhere else in the world there's even more for you.
  • Enjoy!

"DOMESTIC SCIENCE" SERIES 2 STARTS TONIGHT

That's right, 11pm on BBC Radio 4 and three more Wednesdays at the same time. Afterwards, you can listen to each show from anywhere in the world via the BBC website - here's the link.

If you'd rather gorge yourself on all four parts - Kitchen, Living Room, Bedroom and Bathroom - wait until 14th March (that's International Pi Day) and they'll all be on that link.

BACK AT SOHO THEATRE 7th TO 16th MARCH

Festival of the Spoken Nerd returns to London's finest comedy theatre with an hour-long version of You Can't Polish A Nerd, the show we toured late last year. Radioactive banana songs, inappropriate use of a microwave, measuring Pi with a Pie, you know the drill. One of the shows is on 14th March - International Pi Day, did I mention? Tickets here.

We're also selling and signing books, DVDs and other bits after each show. Come say hi and get your things scribbled on.

HERTHA MARKS AYRTON & TIME TRAVELLERS

I've recorded two other series for BBC Radio already this year:

For Radio 4, I chose the incredible Hertha Ayrton for an episode of Great Lives: badass physicist, inventor, electricity wrangler, womens rights activist, captain of the first all-female firefighting team and penpal of Marie Curie. If you haven't heard of her, fix that now - the show is linked here (forever).

I'm also doing another five Time Traveller episodes for Radio 3's Essential Classics, focussing on awesome women of science and the objects that they used to make their discoveries. Listen out on weekday mornings in March, including a special edition for Pi Day - that's 14th March, if you haven't heard already...

MORE LIVE SHOWS AROUND THE UK

Cambridge, you lucky pups! It's your Science Festival next month, and my sister Dr Kat and I are doing a live version of our Radio 4 show Did The Victorians Ruin The World? on Saturday 17th March.

Tickets are free, get them here - if it looks sold out, check back later as we're being moved to a bigger room. If you can't make it along, you can still listen to all five episodes of the original radio series on this BBC iPlayer link.

I'm also at every one of An Evening Of Unnecessary Detail in London and Cambridge, plus Cheltenham Science Festival on the horizon... more news on that as it breaks.

ELEMENT IN THE ROOM RELEASED IN N. AMERICA

Our fabulous first book as Festival of the Spoken Nerd comes out in the US and Canada on 6th March! Pre-order it in hardback, ebook, Kindle and audiobook (lovingly read by myself and Steve) on this link.

The illustrations alone make it worth a look, and the words aren't bad either. If you don't believe me, here's a few rave reviews:

***** "A highly entertaining book that provides page-turning science fun" PopScienceBooks.com

***** "Hilarious footnotes, smart references and amusing comments on every page" How It Works magazine

OUTRAGEOUS ACTS OF SCIENCE "DECASERIES"!

I'm heading back into the green-screen studio soon for series 10 (TEN!) of Outrageous Acts Of Science. If you're wondering what happened to Series 9, you can see it in North America on the Science Channel from 28th February, 9pm PT/ET - or catch up on past episodes here.

Also British Airways inflight entertainment has the "N for Noel" episode of QI on board, apparently - look it up if you're travelling BA, and you'll see me electrifying Sandi Toksvig and hiding a minus-three-month-old under my shirt.

Thanks as always for reading this, and feel free to share what's in here with whoever you think might like it.

If you've made it this far, please do hit "reply" and send me your news, I always love to hear it. I'll even send you a bonus picture of my daughter playing with her favourite book - Usborne's "Lift The Flap Periodic Table". It's a modern classic.
