 "Handbag of the Month" Gallery-
Congratulations to Patti Shirk of Lawrence, KS!
Her "eye-popping" Quattro pretty much ran away with the victory in our handbag contest last month! So Patti wins a $25.00 SKD virtual gift certificate and a permanent place of honor in our Handbag Gallery. Click here to see her beautiful entry!

So...are you ready to see this month's entries?
We've got TEN more fantastic entries to share with you, so without further delay, check out this month's nominees, then cast a vote for your favorite.

This Quattro in batik was created by Joan Dost of Ladysmith, WI. I love this exterior fabric which Joan said she picked up at her local quilt shoop in Eau Claire, WI. And here's a peek at the back!

Cindy Lubbert of Strafford, MO created this Guardian. She said the folded star technique she used for the bag front effect added a good deal of bulk in the seams which was challenging but the look is amazing, don't you think?! Here's how the BACK looks!

And Sue Agius of Sarina, QL, Australia made this cute Wrapsody as a gift for her best friend who LOVES "Hello Kitty". Sue said this was her 1st attempt at a bag of this level and she had such fun...she's already cutting out another! Check out the INSIDE here!

And Karla Grady of Dallas, Oregon said this is the 4th handbag she's made from our patterns. She made this Odyssey backpack for her daughter who chose the design and requested polka dots. Oddly, Karla said this polka-dotted fabric wasn't too easy to locate, but the finished look makes the search worthwhile, doesn't it?!  :)

This luminous Bellagio Bag was created by Celia Oliver of Nottingham, UK, & if this fabric looks familiar, it's from Peggy Toole's "Lumina" line. You might remember that we featured this line in one of our Wrapsody samples. Here's a look INSIDE!

And Lies Bos-Varkevisser of the Netherlands is back with this extraordinary Wrapsody! This bag was destined to be a gift for Lies' DIL who I'm guessing might be a Laurel Burch fan? And it's just as pretty INSIDE!

And this "crazy-quilted" Wrapsody was created by Karla Strauss of Plattsburgh, NY. She says she LOVES her new bag! Karla made effective use of our FREE "Wrap it Up" tutorial and her fabric stash to achieve this unique look. And here's the back!

Barb Stempel of Salley, SC said she wanted something bright & summery for her Wrapsody! I love how our polkadot zips & matching binding tie it all together. And here's a look INSIDE!

This incredible Wrapsody was created by Cara who helps run an embroidery website in South Africa. www.hatchedinafrica.com I LOVE the tribal cat Cara chose to stitch on back of her bag.

And finally, this pretty paisley Quattro by Louise Landry of Falls Church, VA. She used Amy Butler fabrics to create this stunning look. Here's a look at the zippered entry area and here's a peek at the back!

Bobbin Around the Web-  Hummingbird Highway

Joan's a member of a "Designing Collective" I belong to so after many online interactions I was pleased to finally get to meet her at the Spring Quilt Market (didn't her booth look great?).
Joan is a prolific quilt designer, author & teacher who is best known for her popular ScrapTherapy pattern series which helps quilters relieve the guilt of a growing scrap fabric stash. My favorites are Stained Glass, Duck, Duck, Goose. And the title of her latest book,
When Bad Things Happen to Good Quilters just cracks me up! So check out Joan's site and while you're here, take a peek at her Facebook page, Blog and if you need a place to store all those pins you've collected at various shows, why not download Joan's FREE PinKeep pattern?

Website Spotlite-  The Woolen Needle
We've been very fortunate to have had SO many delightful neighbors in our vending travels and in Paducah, KY we were lucky indeed when we were placed "across the street" from Annette and Carla of The Woolen Needle (Williamsburg, IA).
Not only do they have some of the yummiest hand-dyed woolens EVER, but they feature an entire line of their ownline of applique patterns for quilts, wool applique and rug hooking! And while you're here, check out the Woolen needle FaceBook page.

We had a blast getting to know these fun gals (here's Bubba with Carla & Annette at right) & we hope we're placed nearby next year in Paducah for the 2nd Annual Vendor Games SPEEDwalk event! (Great story for another day!)   :)

Cats in the News- Stand up for Your Cats
My cat, Joba and I want to thank Julia Baird for her essay “Stand Up for Your Cats” (Sunday Review, March 29), in which she lays to rest the stereotype of the “tragic” spinster cat lady.
I have a thriving career as a pattern, a fabulous child and two grandchildren in nearby Charlotte PLUS close friends and yet— I consider myself lucky to have a cat I adore.
Because there's nothing quite as relaxing as lounging around in my p.j.s, with Joba at my side... It's Peace... Serenity... Love and affection without complication....
oh, and that glorious sound of purring.
Read this essay and see if YOU agree!  :)

Monthly Trivia-
Today is Wednesday, the 10th day of June 2015 and did you know that there are only 204 remaining in the year! Turns out that it was also on this day in 1915 that Holllywood icon Judy Garland was born. The Wizard of Oz was and still is one of my all-time favorite movies. I'll never ever forget the first time I saw the big screen turn to color when Dorothy opened that door after landing in Oz. And if today is also YOUR birthday, then here's a great big "Happy Birthday to YOU" from all of us here at StudioKat Designs, and if today is NOT your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway by doing something a little "Ozly". I would suggest skipping down the road, or humming "We're off to see the Wizard", but you might think of a better way. And so sorry if this song is stuck in your head for the rest of the day now!  ;)

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
It's a GREAT day to be sewing!
