Wednesday 11 February

Next Wednesday our speaker is Dennis Russ LRPS, CPAGB, AFIAP, AWPF, BPE1* who will be presenting his new talk: A Bit of Everything

Dennis last visited us in October last year, when he judged Round 1 of the Print Competition. Tonight we get a chance to turn the tables and see the sort of photography that Dennis does. The title gives you some idea as to what to expect, so there should be something to appeal to everyone.
You can see the types of photography that Dennis does, by visiting his website:

A plea from the Chairman:

The club at present is relying on Rob Stevenson to act as a remote PDI secretary, having moved to Devon, near Torquay, in mid-December. At present he is receiving entries for the PDI competitions in Devon, using “Photo Entry” software. I then download the entries and load them into a programme called Di-Centra which projects the competitions at the Clubrooms.

We therefore need an in-house person to take on the role of Projected Image Competition Secretary. You will need to be able to familiarise yourself with the “Photo Entry” and Di-Centra programmes (I used Di-Centra extensively when PDI sec for 7 years). You also need to be comfortable with standing in front of members to make announcements and to deal with the various issues that arise, such as new people entering and needing help. There are other tasks too, however there is a lot of help available for any candidate to learn the system.

It is important we have a flow of members to take on the jobs which make the club run smoothly, as it is not sustainable for the same small number of people to be continually carrying multiple roles to run the society.

If you have a some of the skills outlined, please contact me for a conversation to go forward. There is a lot of help available – you will definitely not be on your own!

Mobile Phones
Would members please remember to switch their phones to silent before meetings start, there's nothing more embarrassing than a visiting speaker being interrupted by the not so melodic tones of a phone going off during the evening.

Whilst on the topic of phones, some members have taken to using their phones during meetings, the bright screens can be very annoying and distracting to those sitting around them, especially when the talk is using PDIs and we are in a darkened room. I'm sure that reading/sending messages, checking football results or Google searches can wait either until the tea break or the end of the meeting.

Just remember - YOU PROBABLY WON'T DIE IF YOU DON'T TOUCH YOUR PHONE FOR AN HOUR OR SO, BUT YOU WILL DEFINITELY PEE OFF THOSE SITTING NEAR YOU IF YOU DO!
