New members are always welcome. Our Friends of the Library group is free to join and you can pick and choose which events you'd like to help with. Attending the monthly meetings is not required either (you can still volunteer for various activities and fundraisers like the helping with the annual ice cream social, organizing the Bags and Bling Sale, and so on). Email Library Director Aubrey Muscaro at amuscaro@richmondlibrary.info with any questions or call 860-295-6210.

Our Spice of the Month Kits went fast! We're all out of this month's kits but will have a new spice in October. We have received a lot (a lot!) of positive feedback about our new Spice of the Month Kits so we plan on offering these monthly at least all fall and winter long. In the meantime, if you took a kit and tried a recipe, we'd love it if you could send us a picture of whichever recipe you made to richmondprograms@gmail.com.
Here at the Richmond Memorial Library, we truely have something for everyone! This fall, the library will be offering Spice of the Month kits for adults with the hope of introducing our library users to spices they may not be familiar with. Each kit will include a sample of that month's spice (September's will be sumac) along with two simple (nothing complicated whatsoever) recipes that the spice can be used in. We'll also include a little information about the spice. Available in limited quantities, while supplies last, on the third Tuesday of the month, beginning tomorrow!

Now accepting Book Donations
The Friends of the Richmond Memorial Library are now accepting book donations for an upcoming book sale, to be held in mid-October. Items should be in sale-able condition and brought inside the library during open hours. We do not accept textbooks, magazines, condensed books or VHS tapes.
Our new Crafternoons with Carrie programming series, designed specifically for adults, was a hit last month! Held on the third Thursday of the month at 2 pm, Carrie will teach participants how to make a different craft each month. Our series continues on October 17 and we will be learning how to make Scrapbook Paper Pumpkins. Registration for this series will be required because we need to know how many supplies to have on hand. The program will typically be held in our upstairs meeting room but we are more than happy to relocate it to our first floor children's room if there are accessibility issues.***
One note: Our October 17 program is full but we have added an encore presentation on Thursday, October 24, at 2 pm. Registration can be done online or by calling 860-295-6210.

American Job Center Series
Are you (or is someone you know) looking for a new job, trying to restart or jumpstart your career, or in need of specific job skills training? We will be partnering with the American Job Center over the next few months to offer drop-in (no appointments needed) assistance with resumes, job search assessment, career coaching, computer literacy, mock interviews, and on the job training programs. If this is something that interests you, stop into the library on the first Tuesday of the month. Our next program will be held on October 1 from 5-7 pm. The American Job Center is a one-stop career center that offers free help to job seekers for a variety of career and employment related needs.
Update: Pre-Registration is now available online in 15 minute time slots (your appointment can run longer than 15 minutes ... this just helps us gauge the interest so the American Job Center knows how much help they will need to have on hand). This can be done online or by calling 860-295-6210.
The Richmond Memorial Library's Morning Book Club will meet on Thursday, October 10, beginning at 10 am. The group has chosen to read The Friend by Sigrid Nunez. Copies of this month's book are available at the circulation desk. Registration is not required and new members are always welcome.

Books about Native Americans
Use our Encore catalog to put one of these books on hold today or ask our staff to put a hold on your account.
Be on the lookout for Paige in our future newsletters! She will be popping in each week with her very own words of wisdom.
