Leith Hill Action Group – Newsletter 37 (11th November 2015)

Stop the Leith Hill oil drilling!

Dear Supporters

This week's Surrey Advertiser (page 7 of the Dorking and Leatherhead edition dated 20 November, and also online via this link) contains coverage of a potential threat to the water supply of 180,000 people in Surrey.  The main story follows an interview with a director of Sutton and East Surrey Water, who is concerned that Europa’s drilling operation "will increase the risk of polluting the aquifer of the local watercourse that is used for public water supply’’.

If you feel moved to respond,  please email  your comments in response to the articles to mark.edwards1@trinitymirror.com, who will ensure they are forwarded to the newspaper’s letters pages that run in all editions across the county.   It need only be 1 or 2 paragraphs -- Mark suggests that you focus on one or two points. Please also include your name and address.  The more people who mail in, the more coverage the issue will continue to get.

The Surrey Advertiser will be following up next week by reporting the following public meeting to discuss the protection of public water supplies and the environment at Leith Hill.  As a reminder, the details of this meeting are as follows:

John Venus Hall, BROOMEHALL ROAD, COLDHARBOUR, SURREY RH5 6HF
Wednesday 25th November  from 7:30pm – 9:30pm.
The guest speaker  from the Environment Agency will be Jan Hookey, Senior Technical Specialist, Groundwater & Contaminated Land for South East England Region.
All local residents and Sutton and East Surrey Water consumers are welcome.

Clearly, the groundwater issue is a serious one and something I know many people have expressed concerns about.  This is your opportunity to ensure your concerns are heard.
