So let's kick it off this month with a beautifully functional Encore Purse Insert sent in by Debra Ingersoll of Springboro, OH. Debra said she hasn't sewn anything in quite some time, but she did a great job, didn't she? Here's another view for your consideration.

This is Janet Tucker's Quattro and she said that she had been saving this fabric for a LONG time in search of the perfect project for it. Her favorite part of the bag is the zippered pocket which she loves all the more because of the black/white zipper she got from us! Great job, Janet! I bet you're the talk of East Hampton, MA carrying this bag!

This patchwork Boho Baguette was fabricated by Becky Lipchik of Ozark, MO. She says she made these log cabin quilt squares quite some time ago & decided they would make a cute bag. She used a contrasting fabric for the back and embroidered her initial on it. I LOVE the polka-dotted interior as well!

Robin Michaeletz of Columbia, MO created this floral Harmony Handbag because she needed a summer bag. She added an extra phone pocket in see-thru fabric so she can see if she gets messaged & the embroidery is from Hatched in Africa AND All Sorts Embroidery.

And this graphic DittyRoo is REALLY eyecatching, isn't it? It was fabricated by Lee Franklin of Oldsmar, FL & she says that she's keeping it for herself! I especially like her bold combination of fabrics. Click HERE to see how very different it looks on the back! great work, Lee!

And don't you find this Quattro intriguing? It was submitted by Geraldine DeBoer of Anchorage, AK, and I would have loved to know much  more about this fabulous bag. Here's a closeup of what looks like a detachable hummingbird (pin?) on the Strap.

Rita Keiser of Florence, OR made this DittyRoo up for her beloved sister who is a self-described travel addict. Rita attempted to include various places that her sister had visited in different areas of the bag. The map on the base of the bag is the area in which they live... so she can find her way back home.  :)

Rita had enough of her fabric leftover that she made sis a matchiing Encore Purse Insert. (Is she a great sis, or what?) Here's a peek at the back side.

And last but absolutely not least, we have this stunning Gadabout, which was created by Mary Ann Merryman of Canton, OH. Mary Ann used embroidery designs from Embroidery Library to great advantage in this bag. Here's how the back of this Gadabout looks and here's a closeup of the Flap. And here's the deal, as much as I love the exterior, I absolutely ADORE the bold yellow interior! Check it out!

Feline Quote for August-
"Cats are the ultimate narcissists. You can tell this by all the time they spend on personal grooming. Dogs aren't like this. A dog's idea of personal grooming is to roll in a dead fish."

A FREE gift from SK Designs- the Wrist-a-Kat - a wristlet purse

You probably don't know this, but in just a few short weeks, we'll be celebrating our 7th and BEST year in business as an independent pattern designer, due in large part to the fact that we have without doubt, the best and most loyal customers in the world.
This Wrist-a-Kat pattern has long been included as a bonus with our AbracaNiche pattern and for years, folks have been encouraging us to make it available as a stand-alone pattern, but until now, we really haven't felt compelled to do so.

But today, we're making this little pattern available to everyone on our Newsletter Mailing list (which numbers over 17,500), our Facebook followers (numbering almost 1000) and our Blog subscribers (which total over 2500). We are NOT uploading this pattern to the Free Pattern page of our website just yet, and until such time as we do, access to this pattern will be limited to only those who read this Blog or subscribe to our Newsletter.
So.... if you're ready to get started, down load these FOUR pages!

Designs big and small aimed at the enhancement of the lives and living environments of cats, are welcomed in the competition.

Sewing Headlines- "Go Green" Sewing Shop
Katherine Schmitz saw a need for a shop like this, in order to save space in the landfills. At the Go Green Sewing Place, people can bring in old clothes, sheets, and any kind of fabric. Schmitz helps find a new use for them by teaching you how to sew them into something new.
Schmitz says many people under the age of 45 don't know how to sew. She hopes to change that by having birthday parties at the shop and offering summer camps for kids.

Monthly Trivia-
Today is August 7th, the 220th day of 2011, and there are 146 days remaining. It was also on this day in 1959, that the US satellite Explorer VI transmitted the 1st picture of earth from space. Imagine that... for the very time, we had a likeness of our planet based on more than projections & conjectures, and here it is. It sure doesn't look like much when compared to today's satellite image, now does it, but it was no doubt exciting at the time.
And speaking of exciting, I'm sure there'll be some of that in store today, for singer/songwriter BJ Thomas who is celebrating his 69th birthday today, along with actors David Duchovny (of The X Files), and Charlize Theron (of The Cider House Rules). And if today is also YOUR birthday, here's a great big "Happy Birthday to YOU" from StudioKat Designs, and if today is not your birthday, you can celebrate the day anyway by running around outside and getting a few raindrops on your head! Well...I'm at least HOPING for a few raindrops today to cool things off. If that doesn't happen, I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with listening to this recording!

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
Sewing Forever, Housework Whenever!
