Tip of the Week

      Did you know....

The most important question to ask during the first contact with a note holder is a qualifying question that tells you the prospect is ready to do business, such as, "That's a great note, why would you want to sell that?"  This is also the ONE question you cannot afford to leave out.

Quote of the Week

As we grow old, the beauty steals inward.

President's Corner

Being the owner of a Note Business often requires you to wear many different hats. However, it is important to focus on your main objective, which is to turn a profit.  This week is my third of four suggestions of elements of a Note Business that you might want to keep at the top of your priority list.  For this week the priority element is to collaborate with others.  In addition to focusing on the local market, join forces with other businesses that complement your own.  Collaboration can take several other forms as well.  Perhaps attending a convention or other professional development opportunity, you will meet people with similar goals and interests.  Working cooperatively with them can benefit you both. Remember, Success Demands Action! Keep on marketing, it’s going to work! TWITA!

Direct Mail Step By Step

Some of the most successful consultants and note brokers are those who use direct mail.  Direct mail however, has two major drawbacks.  It is expensive and difficult to do correctly.  However, if it is done correctly, it is very lucrative. To assist you in avoiding the mistakes that I made early on this article will cover some of the things I have learned about direct mail.  Like every other approach in the note business, you must have a very creative and professional approach to direct mail.  Your letters should be well written and edited.  Your material should look very professional. You should be able to deal professionally with the response to your mail campaign... Read More...

Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

Is there a market for a Note Appraiser?  If so, where can one go for training? Do you teach it?  Thank you.

                                                 ~ Chris

A - Hi Chris!

Thanks for the email! Well... in 23+ years of business I have done a total of 7 note appraisals for $250-$350 each. There is a market for it but it really only something to ADD to your note business not as a business itself. I do not know of anywhere to go to get training because a note appraisal is done based on a note appraisers knowledge and experience in the business. I started my note business in 1991 and didn't do appraisals until the year 2000. Thus, the experience and knowledge. Maybe I need to make an instructional book or course or something about note appraising? Might not be a bad idea. However, I do pay referral fees on note appraisals. So if you come across anyone that wants one I will pay you a $100 referral fee if we do the appraisal. Hope this helps!                                          ~ Jeff
