President's Corner

       Wally Amos of Famous Amos cookies wrote a little book in 1996 called Watermelon Magic; Seeds of Wisdom, Slices of Life and followed that with his Watermelon Credo in 2002.  I wanted to share the Watermelon Credo with you in the hopes it will help you get up and get started or to help you continue to move forward at this time in our market.

       W - Whatever you believe creates your reality.  Believe that life is a positive experience and it will be.

       A - Attitude is the magic word.  Your greatest asset is your attitude. Be positive regardless.

       T - Together everyone achieves more.  There are no limits to what we can accomplish together.  I am more than I am but less than we are.

       E - Enthusiasm is the wellspring of life.  There is no limit to what can be accomplished with enough enthusiasm.

       R - Respect yourself, as well as others.  When you begin to respect yourself, your whole world changes.

       M - Make commitments, not excuses.  There is overwhelming power in the words "Yes I Will!"

       E - Everyday can be a fun day.  Fun is the lubricant that keeps life moving forward. Laugh a lot.

          Marketing results are achieved through testing and retesting different marketing methods until one works for you. What works for one person doesn’t always work exactly the same for another person. Maybe you heard that one person has been having good results from direct mail, it doesn’t mean it will work for you. Or another person has been getting deals by using the internet; it doesn’t mean it will work for you. There are no tricks or secrets or easy ways to get results quickly.

Question of the Week

Q - Hi Jeff,

          It's been a while since I took your class. I am stumped. Should I start making up marketing material first? I work full time 7:00- 5:00, then have three daughters at home waiting for me (ages 8, 9,10). When I start sending out marketing information, how should I handle calling prospects back. Do most seem to call at night anyways?  I'm really frustrated I don't seem to be able to find the time to get this business rolling along. Is it enough to start just on the weekends? Any suggestions? I don't think I should quit my day time job till this replaces my current income?  ~ JK


A - Hello JK!

        Well you've got a lot going on with three daughters (I know I have two) AND a fulltime job. Is it possible to do this on the weekends? Well, yes. But not probable if you are trying to get steady deals coming in monthly. To be completely honest, the note business is a tough business and you have got to be able to dedicate more than just weekends to it. Note holders expect to be able to get a hold of you during normal business hours and that you are responsive.  In my experience no, calls do not come in at night or on the evenings. MAYBE you can get a cheap website up and do some internet marketing and follow up with people on the weekends but don't count on much from that. It would be better if you could work at least an hour or two a day to return calls. Maybe on a lunch break or something. In my opinion, doing the note business only on the weekends would make it very hard to replace your income and get you where you want to be.  Don't worry, when you get caught up and start to have more time the business will still be here. Again, take care of your girls and this business will be here when you are ready.  Hope this helps!  TWITA! ~ Jeff
