The film Trapped: What Remains of a Woman's Right to Choose? will be introduced by Judge Lynne Riddle (ret), Instructor, Reproductive Justice, UCI-Law School. US reproductive health clinics are fighting to remain open. Since 2010, 288 laws regulating abortion providers have been passed by state legislatures. 44 states and DC have measures subjecting abortion providers to legal restrictions not imposed on other medical professionals. Unable to comply with these, clinics have taken the fight to the courts. In 2016 the US Supreme Court issued a ruling that prevents individual states from essentially outlawing abortion. *Trapped* follows the clinic workers and lawyers who were on the front lines of the battle to keep abortion safe and legal. NEW Apr 22 Monday 11:45am-3pm, Fullerton: Fullerton College Earth Day: Migration Symposium @ Fullerton College, Wilshire School of Continuing Education,, 315 E Wilshire Ave
Symposium Schedule:   11:45am Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mauel Pastor, Distinguished Professor of Sociology and American Studies and Ethnicity, USC;   1:20 pm Panel on Immigrant Resilience;   3pm Conversation Circle by SES, FC United & Sociology Club on "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights." What is often omitted in its unifying environmental theme is that sustainability is just as much about social justice as it is about environmental and economic prosperity. Many mistake the movement as elitist and exclusive - that perception is erroneous. Academic research shows that low income nations and underrepresented peoples are not only the most impacted by environmental issues but also acutely aware of the need to improve environmental quality. Amidst the many environmental and social issues, racialized backlash to demographic changes, food insecurity, pollution, agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, obesity among the poor, lack of access to food, and human rights abuses, work must be done towards alleviating these conditions. This symposium is dedicated to expose social inequalities relevant to migration and the environment.

Public discourse regarding climate change in OC is often scarce. Yet, there has been a glimmer of hope on the horizon for climate, and it bears the yellow flag of the Sunrise Movement. Young people across the United States have begun to demand political leaders draft a “Green New Deal,” an umbrella term for a sweeping set of policies that aim to fight climate change and economic inequality based loosely on F.D.R.'s New Deal. By providing a historical context for environmental justice issues in North OC, participants will gain valuable insight into the colonial processes that created the climate crisis. The goal of this workshop is to inspire students to act on climate by creating environmental policy while rejecting settler colonial politics. During this session, participants may discuss how to promote sustainable economic development with indigenous communities and disadvantaged communities of color. Keywords: Climate Action, Environmental Policy, Decolonization, Permaculture, Civic Engagement.

NEW May 4 Saturday 10am-12:30pm, Anaheim: ACLU of So California: We The People: Take the Power Back @ Anaheim Central Library, 500 W Broadway
California has a deadly problem with policing. California police kill more people than any other state, and there are enormous racial disparities. That's why ACLU So CA is working to pass AB 392, a bill in the CA Legislature to stop police from using deadly force when they have other options. By holding police to a higher standard, this common-sense change to the law will make the difference between life and death. Too many families are left shattered by police violence. Many of these killings are senseless and preventable. Police should never use deadly force unless absolutely necessary. But right now, California law lets police kill even if deadly force isn't required. Last year, this bill was stalled in the legislature by the big law enforcement lobby. It's time to take the power back and demand more from police and elected representatives. Join the movement of everyday individuals who are committed to bring an end to this death toll. Get informed, get organized and let's jump into action. Breakfast and snacks will be provided. Register for the event here

Presented in partnership with the Creative and Cultural Industries program in the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Chapman University. Join Shoshana Zuboff for a fascinating talk about the unprecedented form of power called “surveillance capitalism” and the quest by corporations to predict and control behavior. In the current age of social media and smart devices, people are under 24-hour surveillance. From the time they wake up using their phone's alarm to the dinner eaten on a Yelp search, data on private human experience is constantly being collected and sold—often with consent.  Zuboff shines a light on this invisible yet pervasive force that knows everything about users, while they know very little about it.  If you tweet, post, shop, drive, sleep, or eat, this is an essential conversation that will likely change the way you think about these seemingly quotidian activities.  After all, it's not just privacy that is threatened by surveillance capitalism, but democracy itself. Zuboff is a professor emerita of the Harvard Business School and author of the influential books, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power and In the Age of Smart Machine: The Future of Work and Power. Doors will open at 6pm for complimentary wine reception and a chance to see OCMA's new exhibitions featuring Pacific Rim-based artists whose work explores global issues of power, control, and corporate influence.  Following the talk, Zuboff will sign books. 7 pm: Talk + Q&A8 pm: Book signing. Suite 100 is off of the inside courtyard, in the center of the office complex.

Irvine United Congregational Church which is located at 4915 Alton Parkway, Irvine 92604, has the front and main entrance to their parking lot blocked with construction.
If traveling East on Alton, take a left turn on Creek Road.
If traveling West on Alton, take a right on Creek Road.
Once on Creek Road look to the right side of the road for an entrance to Woodbridge Village Association Community Center (31 Creek Road) and follow that entry road to the end into the parking lot to Plumer Hall of the church.
