Poetry reading with
Lynne Barnes, D.R. Goodman, & Frances Schenkkan
Wednesday, April 12th, 7:00pm
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
Well, it’s true that I don’t say "poetry" too often.
But April is National Poetry Month, and if I was going to say it, now would be the time.
The truth is, I am not a big reader of poetry.
I’m not even a small reader of poetry.
(I can't read everything.)
But, I do quite like having poetry read to me, so I am in luck.
This Wednesday, April 12th at 7:00pm, we are hosting three poets reading from their work.
We were introduced to Lynne Barnes last year.
She was one of the contributors who read from the anthology, The River of Earth and Sky: Poems for the 21st Century.
Now she’s back with her own collection, Falling Into Flowers.
I love the imagery of that title!
It bodes well for her work.
Local poet D.R. Goodman is someone we have been wanting to host for quite some time.
At last, we have the pleasure of having her read from her collection, Greed: A Confession.
I’ve already committed the sin of judging a book by its title.
We’ll have to wait to see if this is as timely as it seems.
Finally, we are welcoming Frances Schenkkan, who’s flying in all the way from Austin, Texas to read from Mr. Stevens' Secretary, a finalist for the Miller Williams Poetry Prize.
About this work, former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins said, it “forces an eye-opening change in perspective.”
We are truly delighted to be hosting these three diverse writers at BookShop West Portal!
Please join me in celebrating National Poetry Month.
Oh,and I may have buried the lead, but these books and all of our poetry titles are discounted 20% for the entire month of April.
Now, that’s cause for celebration!
