Hello music lovers!

August has been quieter than usual at Green Note, with so many people away for the Summer... but we've maintained our high standard of eclectic live music programming throughout and had some really wonderful gigs. Now we're gearing up for September and we've got some real musical treats in store!

September is generally a lot busier and we expect most of our shows to sell out. We can't guarantee there will be tickets on the door, so we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment!

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS...

Forthlin SessionsTomorrow night (Tues 3rd Sept) we have a real treat for Beatles fans! Two years on from each writing and performing a song in Paul McCartney’s childhood home as winners of the National Trust’s FORTHLIN SESSIONS, the four acts reunite with sets of original music and Beatles covers! Featuring Dullan + Humm + Emily Theodora + Serena Itoo.

The Lost TradesThis Wednesday (4th Sept), we welcome back Folk/Americana trio THE LOST TRADES, from the West Country, but with a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s/early 70s - their three-part harmonies have been described as “flawless”, “spine tingling” and “magical”. We're also looking forward to ORPHAN COLOURS on Friday (6th Sept) - this band was born out of the ashes of folk outfits Ahab and Noah & The Whale, bringing together the band’s collective influences of Rock, Americana and folk.

Jade MossWe also have a Green Note debut from JADE MOSS - a dynamic singer-songwriter with a bold, soulful voice that is instantly recognizable (Mon 9th Sept). Blending soul, pop, Jazz and  trip-hop into her unique sound, Jade captivates audiences with energetic and heartfelt performances. Definitely worth checking out! We also welcome the return of Green Note favourite, renowned Senegalese Kora player and singer KADIALY KOUTATE (Fri 13th Sept).

Kate ShorttIf comedy is your bag, then why not come and see SHORTT and KAI (Weds 11th Sept)? This is a partnership between the hilarious comedy-musician Kate Shortt and musical theatre cabaret artist Marcus Kai. Cellist, Pianist, Singer-Songwriter, Poet and Comedienne Kate Shortt,  performs her ‘sit down’ comedy show with cello, keyboard, kazoo, RAP plus more. Her audience are taken on a ride from observational songs involving Jewish cats, orgasmic Bach, love songs to cars, impressions and live recorded looped improvisations. Marcus Kai, a professional Actor, Singer and Comedy Screenwriter, combines all three for a night of love, laughs and…lucky charms!

Mike Redfern BandAnd for fans of  the legendary American songwriter Jimmy Webb - we have a very special night with Guildhall graduate MIKE REDFERN, together with his band, who will be presenting the music of Jimmy Webb (known especially for his work with Glen Campbell as the writer of timeless hits including Witcheta Lineman, Galveston and By the Time I Get to Phoenix).

GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD...
Andrew CombsKicking off a new season of shows at our 'homes away from home', we have the incredibly talented ANDREW COMBES (Tues 3rd Sept @ The Water Rats Kings Cross). Released just last week, Dream Pictures, the sixth album from songwriter Andrew Combs, is a dreamy, dusky record for the quiet hours that bring each day to a close. The Nashville resident, who’s become a fixture of modern-day American roots music over the past decade has been hailed by everyone from NPR (who hosted Combs for an acclaimed Tiny Desk performance in 2023) to Rolling Stone (who deemed him “a pop perfectionist”). Combs has built his career with a chameleonic sound that explores subtlety, nuance, and the grey area between folk, country, and classic pop.

WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE… A Celebration of The Poetry & Music of Leonard Cohen…Later this month we'll be joining poet/singer songwriter GABRIEL MORENO and singer songwriter JASON MCNIFF for a night of music and poems as we celebrate the 90th birthday of the great General of song - WAITING FOR THE MIRACLEA Celebration of The Poetry & Music of Leonard Cohen. McNiff and Moreno will be accompanied by the Brothers of Mercy: Ned Cartwright on piano, Richard Moore on violin and Matt Armstrong on double bass. The band will be performing a selection of compelling Cohen numbers plus a series of their own songs which pay tribute to Cohen’s magical formula of merging poetry and music. This promises to be a magical evening in the beatiful surroundings of Heath St Baptist Church in Hampstead, and we can't wait!

We've also just announced a lot of new shows for later in the year, so check out our listings and start planning the rest of your musical year!

Hope to see you soon!

Lots of love,

Immy & Risa xx
