Portland Story Theater October 2010

Thank you, listeners!
Thanks to everyone who came out for our free season opener, Urban Tellers! We filled the house to capacity both nights as the sixteen students from our Personal Narrative workshop stood and delivered the pieces they had crafted. It was a huge success!! Each and every one of them rose to the occasion and a splendid time was had by all. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Next up: Devilishly Good!
In October, Lawrence Howard of Portland Story Theater teams up with Jonah Weston of Action Talks Productions to deliver a pair of literary classics! Lawrence tells Stephen Vincent Benet's The Devil and Daniel Webster and Jonah tells Shel Silverstein's epic poem, The Devil and Billy Markham
Dirt-poor New Hampshire farmer Jabez Devilishly Good at Portland Story TheaterStone is down on his luck. It's one thing after another until finally, he swears he would sell his soul to the Devil for a little relief! But when the ten years are up and Mr. Scratch comes a'knockin on the door, Stone hires legendary attorney Daniel Webster to plead his case. The Devil and Daniel Webster argue back and forth, hot and heavy - with no holds barred. Will Webster save his client's soul? Or will he lose his own?

Daniel Webster is not coming to save the sorry ass of down-and-out country songwriter Billy Markham; Billy has to rely on his own wits if he is going to save his immortal soul. When Lucifer offers to roll the dice again -- double-or-nothing -- Billy jumps at the chance, only to see his loved ones join him in eternal damnation and his own suffering multiply. Will Billy find a way to beat the Devil?? Come and find out!! Shel Silverstien's epic poem is pure gold in the hands of Portland actor Jonah Weston. "This is exactly what theater should be: audience, performer, words."
