John 10:14, 18 "I am the good shepherd. . . . and I lay down My life for the sheep. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again."

THE RISEN LORD JESUS IS MY SHEPHERD

We live in a world full of dangers, so we take daily precautions. We watch what we eat. We are careful where we travel. We are on the alert for scams and shams. And these things are not even the most serious threats to our well-being. Satan's plots to do us great spiritual harm, even death eternal, are a far greater danger than schemes of men who can only steal our property or do us bodily harm.

Thankfully our security is not in our resources or in the precautions we take, but in Christ our Lord. Even if the plane goes down, we are safe. Even though the old evil Foe is stronger, we are secure. He who once was dead lives and reigns. The risen Christ is our Shepherd-King. His power to guard and keep is not restricted to matters physical. His guardian care is not confined to the comings and goings of our earthly lives, for His chief concern is that our life's journey conclude with us safe in the sheepfold of our heavenly Father.

"He lives triumphant from the grave. He lives eternally to save."

We can rely on whatever He says . . . and this is His promise to us: "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:27-28).

In Thy promise firm we stand.
None can pluck us from Thy hand.
Speak -- we hear -- at Thy command
We will follow Thee.
