Noise and Artifact Suppression Tips

Where is grain a problem? Film grain can be too strong depending on the format you're shooting. On video, shooting in a dark room with the gain boosted can also give you a lot of noise (see the sample above on the right, which was shot in a dark barn at a hoedown). You can get noise around the edges and in the matte of footage you are keying. Artifacting can also be caused by video compression.
