Hello Firstname

Wednesday 30 May

Next Wednesday we welcome back Sue Sibley ARPS AFIAP DPAGB from Southampton. Sue recently brought us prints from the Southampton International Exhibition; this time she will be showing her own work in a talk called Her Own StuffThis is ‘Sue's journey so far’ (it's a short one compared to most). It is all in Prints and is all about encouraging people, showing how she's improved through being amember of Southampton CC, and why she thinks Camera clubs are the best way to learn new skills and techniques and, of course, moving on to doing
some of the different distinctions on offer. Sue will show her ARPS and PAGB panels as well as some of the pictures that have helped her gain EFIAP and BPE2*. In Sue's words "I’m not a blow my own trumpet type of person so I won’t list awards or anything like that! I just like to entertain people with a similar passion for Photographic Art. I like to keep the evening light hearted and full of enthusiasm but I’m sure you get that idea from my SIE Print Show. I thought it would be nice for your members to know a bit more about me other than just the person who comes every year to show the SIE Prints."

Programme Change
Would members please note that there is a change to the advertised programme. On June 13 we were due to welcome Kathryn Scorah. Unfortuately, she is unable to make it, so we have an alternative evening provided by Keith Wood and Barry Mead. More details closer the date.

The following is from the Membership Secretary:
Thank you to the 95 members who replied so promptly to the email about Data Protection. If you haven't already done so, would you please respond as quickly as possible. Two or three people so far have been unable to use the red button to open the email addressed to me, so if this applies to you, please just reply to me at membership@bristolphoto.org.uk to confirm receipt.
Please let me know if you have not received the email (and it isn't in your junk folder).

PAGB Interclub DPI Competition - Warwick
BPS will be representing the WCPF at the annual PAGB Interclub Competition to be held at Warwick on Saturday 14 July at Warwick University. This event brings together the top two Clubs from each of the 15 Federations, together with the top 8 placed clubs from the 2017 Championships to compete to find the Champion Club for 2018.
Admission is from 9.30am by prepaid ticket only; these can be purchased by completing the form (download here) and sending it with the correct remittance and an SAE, to the address shown on the form. This is a great day out when you get to see some of the best images in Great Britain and at the same time get to meet members from other clubs from across the country.

Situation Vacant
Following many years of unstinting service to BPS as Clubroom Steward, Gill Peeke is finally hanging up her spurs, there is, therefore, a vacancy for the post. If you think you might be interested in filling Gill's shoes, then please have a word with any Council member on a Wednesday evening (they're the ones with the red name tags). If you would like more information about what is involved, I'm sure Gill will be only to happy to fill you in. If you are interested, but feel that Gill's shoes may be too big too fill, perhaps you might consider sharing the job with someone else.

Studio Hire
Following this month's Council meeting, it has been decided to increase the hire fee for the studio from £30 to £35. This increase takes immediate effect, however existing bookings will be honoured at the old rate.

The following is from BTW leader, David Grierson:

YouTube: Many members have mentioned certain names who have great learning sites on YouTube. What I’d like to create is a database of these names so we can all benefit.
A couple I use are:
  • Anthony Morganti - click here
  • Photos in colour - click here
Please email your “go to” sites to mail@dgrierson.co.uk and I’ll publish the results.

Following on from the recent talk on mount cutters by Longridge, they have now written to say that members can get a discount on the cutters, however to get this discount, orders will have to be placed over the phone, quoting Bristol Photographic Society and Chris Longridge.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to the following BPS members who have gained FIAP distinctions:

Mike Bews - EFIAP
Sue O'Connell - EFIAP/p
Keith Wood - EFIAP/p
Barry Mead - EFIAP/d2

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
