Recipes and Tips

Pumpkin in a can has been harder to find (people are buying it for their pets), so we have modified the Pumpkin Bread recipe

Sweet Potato Bread                                         2 loaves

3-1/4 c. of flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

3 c. sugar

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. nutmeg

4 eggs

2 (15-oz) cans of sweet potato, drained and then mashed

2/3 c. water or orange juice

1 c. vegetable oil

1 c. walnuts, chopped (optional)

Sift dry ingredients.  Make a well in the flour mixture and add eggs, oil, sweet potato, water and nuts.  Stir and pour into 2 greased and floured 5" x 9" loaf pans.  Bake for 60 minutes in a 350 degree oven, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Next time you are in the oldest city check out the new gourmet popsicle shop and the gourmet popcorn store, they are irresistible!

Cleaning tip:  Oven cleaner works well on glass shower doors if they haven't been cleaned in a really long time (college age kids). Spray some at the top of the door, using enough to create a foam, then allow it to sit for about thirty minutes.  After the time has elapsed, wipe it all off using paper towels or newspapers and then clean as usual.

New Cookbook Request:  The recipes continue to come in, but we need more as we put together the second cookbook that features the best family recipes from our guests here at the Carriage Way.  The cookbook will have one recipe on a page and we would like you to provide a short story that complements the recipe.  Send us only your best and if we print your recipe, we will send you a complementary copy.

Where is Larry Now!

He is still staying in a campground near Steamboat Springs, CO and inspecting a few boats before they go into the water, but the temperature has been getting down to 30 degrees during the night.  He says that shower #2 is putting out good hot water, but he has to stay under the water or it is quite chilly.  He says the afternoons are getting into the mid 70's.  He hopes to be a house squatter by mid October.  The leaves are changing on the trees and hunting season has begun.
