Matthew 19:4-6 Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.

MARRIAGE: A GIFT FROM GOD'S OWN HAND

The divorce statistics in our country are staggering. They are so staggering that some young people today choose the course of sin because they are afraid of marriage. In 1940 (79 years ago) there were 264,000 divorces in the United States. In 1990 (29 years ago) there were 1,182,000. In 2004 (15 years ago) half of the marriages begun that year ended before the year ended.

Now if we didn't know better, we might conclude that whoever thought up marriage made a big mistake. We do know better, because we know that God Himself set up marriage in the very beginning. Jesus reminds us of this fact.

Since it was God who ordained and defined this blessing, we have no business trying to change or redefine it. Rather, we need to teach our children what is right in God's sight, not what is right in sinful man's changing view.

When God joins two people together in marriage, it is God alone who should separate them. Even as Almighty God determines the length of our lives on this earth, so it is His will that marriage only end at His hand. He separates husband and wife by death, by taking one or the other to Himself in Heaven.

Please, take care, dear Christians, that you are not misled either by the world's permissiveness or by the devil's lies. Beware of twisting the Scriptures by logic to justify sin.

Praise God for the great blessing that is Christian marriage!
