What: Inauagural National Charity Impact Awards
The inaugural National Charity Impact Awards celebrates the best of Ireland's charities.
This is the first national award recognising the impact of Irish charities. The nonprofit sector employs 149,360 people and have a combined annual turnover of over €10 billion.
Awards will be presented in three categories:
- Community Hero Award: This lifetime achievement award honours a volunteer who has made an extraordinary contribution to a good cause over the course of their lives. The ten shortlisted nominees have nearly 300 years of volunteering between them!
- Community Impact Award: This Award celebrates the work of community and voluntary and charitable organisations that have brought about positive change in communities. Fifteen organisations were shortlisted, including some of Ireland's best-loved charities like Barnardos, Irish Mens Sheds, ALONE and Oxfam Ireland.
- Charity Trustee of the Year: All charitable organisations are led by dedicated volunteers who share their time and expertise to bring about positive change. Charity trustees (better known as board members or directors) often work behind the scenes and the impact of their commitment and leadership is seldom recognised. This award aims to shine a light on voluntary trustees who have made an extraordinary contribution to an organisation. Five people were shortlisted in this category.
One hundred and eighteen organisations and volunteers were nominated for the Awards, 30 have been shortlisted and 30,200 people voted for their favourite impact stories.
