Wednesday 16 July

Next Wednesday is the 2025 running of the Creative Competition, when members compete for the Bob Faris Trophy, a rather splendid trophy designed and donated by the late Bob Faris.

This year's judge is Barry Mead EFIAP/d3 MPAGB FRPS APAGB who is no stranger to creative photography, having spent a very large part of his photographic life producing some wonderfully creative images which have gone a long way towards providing that scrabble board of letters you see after his name.

The DIG group are joining hands with the Studio group this month
We are planning to revisit the rain theme from a recent studio session with a view to using this as a possible subject for this year’s Kingswood Salver.

Please bring coats, hats, umbrellas etc., wear plain dark tops or go big and bold with colours (bring both?), for this simulated rain session. Don’t worry you won’t get wet…

…...what more could you wish for on a summer evening!

AGM
You will have received notice of the 2025 BPS AGM earlier this week. One of the first things to be done at the AGM will be to approve the minutes of the 2024 AGM, which I am sure the vast majority of members will have forgotten since it was sent out in Issue 596 of the newsletter last August. To refresh your memories, you can download a copy of the 2024 minutes by clicking here.

Beyond The Wall Group
The Sealed Knot society will be staging a re-enactment at Hartlebury Castle on the weekend of  26/27July https://www.thesealedknot.org.uk/event/hartlebury-castle-2/

This is a large scale (200 people) re-enactment of the English Civil War and promises to be a fabulous chance to capture some great photography. While we have no exclusive access, it is a chance to car share and enjoy a great day out.

If you are interested in being part of a group, probably going on the Sunday, then contact me by email mike.hall95@btinternet.com or by phone 07765 819640.

I am also exploring a visit to the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare to do a model shoot using their collection of helicopters from all genres. For further info and to express interest contact me as above.

Distinctions Advisory Group
Monday 21 July - 7.30pm at the Clubrooms.

Andrew Marker, Ralph Snook and Pete McCloskey will be present to offer advice and review possible submissions for RPS and PAGB panels. ALL members who are either already on the path to distinctions or thinking about having a go are welcome, so come along with your images (prints or DPIs) to receive advice.

For the Licentiate the RPS only accept DPI submissions and no longer prints. Our advice was largely based on print submissions, but with the RPS changed rules we will offer advice on DPIs.

Historically LRPS PDI submissions were assessed sequentially but now have to be submitted using a presentation template as outlined on the RPS Website. https://rps.org/qualifications/licentiate/lrps-presentation-layouts/

It is recommended that members read up on Distinctions on the RPS and PAGB websites as they contain much useful information:
