Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 26 February

Next Wednesday, 4 March, Carmen Norman ARPS CPAGB will present her talk called Lake District Moods. This is a talk showing an inspiring collection of photographs, evoking both stillness and movement, intimately capturing the varied and dramatic beauty of the stunning Lake District. This talk is broken down into key moods where Carmen explains how each picture triggered an emotion, she will talk about why she created the photograph. Not only will she show you the images taken in the Lake District but also the techniques used to capture and process the photograph.
Carmen is an award winning fine art photographer who lives and works in the Lake District. She has had a number of images accepted into national and international salons, with work displayed in various exhibitions and galleries. Her work covers both landscapes and portraiture and she runs photography workshops throughout the year. Carmen has an Associate Distinction of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS) and a Credit Award for the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (CPAGB).

This Weekend
An exciting new addition to Bristol's jam-packed festival calendar launches this week. Bristol Light Festival will showcase renowned international light artists alongside local talent at nine locations across the city to create a stunning spectacle, at a typically quiet and dark time of the year.
A spokesperson for Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), which is organising the event, said it will aim to make the city centre a 'more welcoming home for its residents' and attract visitors from far and wide.
The event is being headed up by creative co-directors Katherine Jewkes and Vashti Waite, who have a vast amount of experience in staging similar events across the globe.

When does it take place?
Bristol Light Festival takes place between Thursday, February 27 and Sunday, March 1.

Where does it take place?
Installations will be at Castle Bridge, Cascade Steps, Queen Square, Park Street, College Green, Quakers Friars and Millennium Square, with the final location being kept secret for now.

Where can you find out more?

"Only Mono" Print Competition
Mike Martin has entered BPS into the above competition. Now in its fourth year, this is the only print competition in the UK dedicated solely to monochrome prints. This year sees 49 clubs do battle to take the trophy.
We need 4 mono prints, each from a different photographer. We’ve got a bit of time as the entries don’t have to be in until April..... BUT start thinking now. If you’re interested, in the first instance eMail mike_martin@blueyonder.co.uk with a digital copy of your best mono image, so he can start compiling a library of potential images for selection – thanks.

If you don't know anything about this competition and would like to see what it is all about, you can follow this link to the official website.

A Date For Your Diary
Woodford Point to Point: Saturday 25 April – First Race: 2 p.m. This picturesque course was first used in 1946 and at the farthest point from the spectators the runners race in the shadows of Berkeley Castle. With the exception of the 6th/15th fence, all the course is viewable from the hill overlooking the first fence. More information on their website: www.berkeleyraces.co.uk

WCPF Members' Exhibition - Still Time To Enter!
The WCPF Members Exhibition attracts entries from many of the clubs in the Federation. Last year, 55 clubs had members who had at least one image accepted. Dorchester who are usually our main rivals in DPIC and the Inter Club Print competition had 23 members with acceptances. BPS on the other hand had only 6 members who had an image accepted. Over 40 BPS members entered this year's Salon (that was selected over the weekend), so why don’t you enter the Members Exhibition as well?

The Members Exhibition is not a trivial affair, last year there were 1150 print and 1750 digital entries, and you can get even get shiny medals and/or certificates to show off with.

I think we should look to challenge Dorchester who are always the dominant club in the exhibition, but that is down to you BPS Members.

There is a box to collect prints entries at the club. You have until 7th March to get your entry in. Don’t worry I can bring another box for prints once the current one if full 😊

The Exhibition is open for entry until 7 March.

It's worth reading the following from John Hudson:

I, like many, have been to this exhibition every year for I know not how long. I have been jaded to the point of thinking of it as a duty rather than a pleasure - especially in recent years when the "arty"-ness of the print was given more credit than its technical merit or content.

This year is different, back to good standards and some great images. I was pleasantly surprised and urge people to go along.

Photography Show (NEC)
Registration is still open for The UK’s biggest photography show, 14 - 17 March. Full details here.
