Sharing Heritage!

Since the Summer, Europa Nostra and its many partners, both public and private, have intensified efforts to achieve a stronger recognition of the value of cultural heritage as a driver for sustainable development and as a cohesive force for our multicultural societies. Special focus was given to the wide dissemination of the findings of the Report "Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe" and to the promotion of the proposed European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018.

In present times of alarming radicalisation, both inside and outside Europe, Europa Nostra's mission and action are even more important than before: together with our ever-growing network we must raise the awareness and respect – together with our youth - about the value of our shared heritage. At the same time, we must engage in an intercultural dialogue - inside and outside Europe - and also play an active part in the global heritage movement. Hence the excellent motto proposed for the EYCH 2018: Sharing Heritage! Read more

Save the dates: 23-27 May 2016 Congress in Madrid

The Spanish capital will stage the 2016 European Heritage Congress from 23-27 May. The winners of the 2016 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards will be honoured at a special ceremony on 24 May at the historic Zarzuela Theatre. The Congress will place a special focus on ‘Social Participation in Heritage Protection’ with a full-day forum to be held on 25 May at the Conde Duque Cultural Centre. Read more

European Year of Cultural Heritage events

On 28 October in Brussels, the Italian and Spanish Permanent Representations to the EU held a policy debate entitled ‘A European Year for Cultural Heritage: Sharing heritage, a common challenge’. On 13 November in Berlin, top-level politicians, EU and international officials and civil society representatives gathered at an event co-organised by the German National Heritage Committee to demonstrate strong support for the EYCH in 2018.

Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe Book presented

Europa Nostra and its corporate partner Bertelsmann organised a special networking event on 22 September at Bertelsmann’s Brussels Office dedicated to the presentation of the book with the Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe Report. The event was attended by officials of European Commission Directorate Generals, representatives of Permanent Representations of EU Member States and Members of the European Heritage Alliance. Jordi Savall receives Helena Vaz da Silva European Award 2015

Jordi Savall, renowned musician and conductor from Catalonia, Spain, received the Helena Vaz da Silva European Award for Raising Public Awareness on Cultural Heritage 2015 at a ceremony held on 12 October at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal. The event took place the day after the memorable concert performed by Maestro Savall and his ensemble Hespèrion XXI at Gulbenkian for an audience of 1,200 people. Read more
