Ephesians 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
WHY SHOULD I SPEAK THE TRUTH?
"Tell the truth." We say it to our children all the time. Or maybe we quote someone famous like Ben Franklin who said, "Honesty is the best policy." We teach our children to be honest because being known as a liar isn't going to benefit our relationships with other people. But there's a lot more than just "not lying," when it comes to telling the truth. Words like "trustworthy," "integrity," "caring," or "up-front," display our character and who we are not just as a person, but a Christian!
Ephesians 4:14-15 teaches that "We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head -- Christ." There is a lot of dishonesty and false words throughout the world today. That's why learning and growing up with the armor of God's Word is of the highest importance! Jesus teaches us all, young and old, what truth and true love really look like with His perfect sacrificial love for the world's salvation. The truth about Jesus Christ and the truths He teaches us are the greatest lessons any of us can ever learn in this short life!
Jesus, my Truth, my Way, My sure, unerring Light,
On Thee my feeble soul I stay, Which Thou wilt lead aright.
Myself I cannot save, Myself I cannot keep;
But strength in Thee I surely have, Whose eyelids never sleep.
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 433:1, 5)
