John 12:48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him-- the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
THE LAST JUDGMENT -- THE STANDARD
When the Day of Judgment arrives, what will be the standard, the basis for judgment? Will the outcome depend on human interpretation of the law? To what will the judge bear witness, to what perfect standard?
The Lord Jesus says that the basis, the absolute truth to which the Judge will bear witness is the Word of Christ. Jesus said on another occasion (Luke 21:33): "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away."
While the heavens and the earth will pass away, Jesus' words will neither pass away nor be changed. This truth is a comfort to us because the certainty of our salvation depends -- not upon our feelings or this changing world and its views -- but upon the words and promises of God. Our feelings may change. Our fears may rise and fall. God's promises to us in Christ are the same and recorded in the unchanging Word.
We find comfort in the truth that Jesus lived for us and died for us and rose again to stand by us. Those who reject these truths will find them the standard for judgment.
