Psalm 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
FAITH TO WAIT
The waiting is finally over. My package was at the post office this morning. I had expected it days ago. I was beginning to wonder if it had gotten lost along the way, and yet it came within two weeks of my online order. Most of us are not very good at waiting. When we want, need, or expect something, we want it now. It takes trust to patiently wait, trust that what we are looking for will come at the right time.
David writes in Psalm 27:14: "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Even when it's waiting for the Lord, we don't do too well, do we? When we're sick, out of work, unhappy, or treated unfairly, we want God to take care of the problem immediately in the way we have in mind. If He doesn't, we become discouraged and feel let down, as though He abandoned us just when we needed Him the most. Some even give up on Him entirely and go their own way thinking that faith in the Lord is pointless.
It takes faith to patiently wait. A student wrote about his father in a school report: "He always does what he says. Sometimes it just takes a while." The young son had faith in his dad, and so he patiently waited. We have every reason to confidently wait for the heavenly Father. He loves us with an everlasting love. He sacrificed His Son on the cross in payment for the sin of the world, that we might be His children by faith and live with Him forever in glory. "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:32).
So don't be discouraged when you have to wait. Don't give up. Whether it is waiting for relief from the pain of illness or healing for sadness, help with a troubled relationship, or earthly necessities, wait for the Lord. He won't forget. He won't disappoint. How could He? He is our loving Lord and Savior!
