ABOUT THE HONORABLE OSCAR J. PETITE, JR.
In March of 1994, I embarked upon the dream of a life time
and took a giant career step by leaping out on faith in pursuit of an
opportunity that would have me further committed to a life time of public
service. I resigned from my position as an Adult Probation Officer due to a
state Supreme Court mandate prohibiting court employees from being involved in
politics, to pursue the elected District Justice position which had been
recently vacated due to the retirement of the late Jacob Williams, after his
having served this community for 30 years. My wife, Sheila, carried the family
and had to bear the financial burden during this trying period as we both
prepared to campaign in the upcoming primary election. My slogan; “Stepping To The Challenge” became our driving force as we
campaigned all over the Hill District, Downtown, Uptown and Strip District
