Meet The Bitter Sea Author Charles Li
Wednesday, February 13th, 7:00 PM
In 1940, China was battling both the Sino-Japanese War and World War II. At the same time, the city of Nanjing was in the grip of a Japanese-collaborationist government. It was in this year that Li Na was born as the youngest son of a government official in a mansion in Nanjing. Twenty-one years later, when Li - now called Charles - abandoned China forever, the nation was fully embroiled in the chaos of Chairman Mao's Communist reform campaigns. The Bitter Sea: Coming of Age in a China Before Mao is the remarkable true story that chronicles the turbulent years in between World War II and the height of Mao's Communist campaign in China when Li experienced an almost unbelievable range of the emerging nation's many identities. Li's riveting memoir tells the unique coming of age tale of both a young man and his rapidly changing country.
This five-session class will equip you with all the basic skills you need to make your own scarf, hat, shawl, poncho, or blanket: casting on (long-tail technique), reading a pattern, knitting and purling using the English (aka American or throw) method, adding a new ball of yarn, increasing and decreasing, casting off, and weaving in ends.
This two-session class will give you an introduction to the mysterious ways of cables, as well as working in the round on double-point needles. You can complete the second glove at home. A great gift idea. Pattern provided.
Bring your questions and whatever project you’re currently working on and get the help you need. No help needed? You’re welcome to drop by our free social circle and enjoy a fun, relaxing evening in the company of other knitters.
