Psalm 113:5-7 Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.
HE LIFTS THE NEEDY
There are a lot of people in the world. I think about that sometimes when I see pictures from far away places. When I see the orphans in India or congregations of believers in other nations, I say, "Look at how many people there are whom I will never know! Imagine how many men, women, and children there are in this world whom I am not even aware exist!" All of a sudden, my circle of acquaintances seems very small.
More stunning, however, is the fact that God knows all the people of the earth. He is able to keep track of every individual everywhere at any time. And further still, He has given His only begotten Son into death for every single one.
All those billions of people who are in the world -- who never enter our thoughts because we simply do not know -- they are all in God's thoughts as Jesus walks the road to Calvary this Lenten season. As for you and me, even though we are but two tiny dots in the speck of humanity's massive sea, our LORD has reached down in Christ to lift us from the ash heap of our sins and raise us to the mansions of heaven.
