John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and told him . . .
PHILIP TOLD NATHANAEL . . . PETER TOLD JARED
All believers in Christ are priests before God. As such we are called to declare the praises of Him Who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. We do so not only within the circle of our family or our church friends, but also out in the world. Does everyone we know trust in our Savior for the forgiveness of their sins? Hardly. All around us are opportunities to speak of sin and grace.
Philip saw his opportunity with his friend Nathanael. Philip couldn't contain his excitement. He just had to tell Nathanael about his new best Friend. "Come and see!" Philip introduced Nathanael to the Lord. The saving power of Jesus' Word did the rest.
Every Tuesday I have an over-the-phone Sunday School class with a fourth grade boy named Peter. Peter lives in Massachusetts. This week he invited his friend Jared to sit in on the class. Jared had heard of Jesus, but he really didn't know much about Him. Over the speaker phone he heard of Jesus' love for him. He heard that Jesus is the Savior of all people -- Jared's Savior too. When I asked Peter how we can be sure that our sins are all forgiven, Peter bravely spoke up: "Our sins are forgiven because Jesus died on the cross for us." Peter said it, and Jared heard it.
Both Philip and Peter had something to say and someone to tell. So do you and I. It might be your next door neighbor. It might be the person who works with you at the office. Or it might be the person you see everyday working behind the counter at your local convenience store.
Does the thought of telling that friend or acquaintance about your Savior seem rather intimidating? Pray about it. Jesus will help you find both the courage and the words. Remember we are God's priests. We are in this world for a very special purpose. We are here on the King's business. Philip and Peter can tell you what a great privilege it is to introduce sinners to the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world!
