The Master started in 1989 as a postdoctoral training based in a series of annual intensive, one-week residential courses. Following a process of continuous development towards a distinct emphasis on scientific research training, the residential courses evolved towards a two-year part-time Master degree in Affective Neuroscience (MsAFN). To start the festivities, an overview of past achievements and the challenges ahead will be presented. This presentation will introduce a Round Table Discussion with all participants on the subject of the future course of our Master in Affective Neuroscience.
16h30 - Farewell Lecture Professor Eric Griez
"Consciousness, Neurobiology and Freedom of the Will"
The round table discussion will be followed by the Farewell Lecture of Professor Eric Griez. He is the founding father of the Certificate in Anxiety and Mood Disorders which evolved into the current Master program. This lecture will focus on the apparent paradox between current scientific insights and our understanding of ourselves as well as our usual clinical practice.
How can we match the subjective experience of free will and free agency with emerging evidence from cognitive and affective neuroscience ? What would the brain be like if biological determinism were true? How could the brain work in order to satisfy the condition of freedom of the will ?
18h00 - “Prendiamo un Aperitivo”
