Wade on the Airwaves
Wade has been the Guest DJ twice on WSM-AM 650, both shows are archived on line. In this role, he played music from his favorite artists and made insightful comments. Wade is well grounded in the country music he loves. His tongue-in-cheek humor really added to the shows.

Toys for Tots Benefit - Drifters

Packed house at the Toys for Tots Benefit. Luckily we were able to get a table near the front. Four tables in the room
- everyone else standing. John Corabi, lead entertainer for the event, led off with some soft rock covers. Most of the performers were rock. Wade was the second artist to take the He was very well received by the group. Unexpectedly, at least half of the audience was singing along with him on his hit songs. Very nice. Wade was saying he'd never been happier in his life. He's looking healthier every day. What a blessing!

Appearance Before the Rockettes' Show
Before the Rockette performance, I noticed a chair, a microphone, and 2 gift bags on the front of the stage outside the curtain. Ashley Mann of WSM introduced a special guest for the evening. "He's going to read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. This is a special Christmas for him. Last year he was facing Stage IV colon cancer. This year he iswith rockettes cancer free. Make welcome country star Wade Hayes." He told the audience this was one of his favorite stories. Then he read the book. (I've told him before that he has a good voice for recording narrations. His answer is usually a disbelieving HA!) He read it very well, pausing at the vision of sugar-plums to ask the audience if they'd ever had sugar-plums. Then remarking that he had, and they were really good. On finishing the story, after the applause, he said "There is a reindeer missing from this story. Who knows which one? We'll give a clue." Then he took a rubber clown nose out of his pocket and put it on. Two little girls in the audience raised their hands and each got one of the gift bags. Wade left the stage after wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

If you don't have this in your collection, your missing a real gem. ThatNashvilleSound.com listed it as one of its top 10 albums of 2009 - "the most underrated album of the year."

In their review - "With apologies to Yogi Berra, it’s time to rediscover Wade Hayes for the first time. Place To Turn Around is everything that is great about indie records. Imagine hanging around your favorite honkytonk bar and hearing an artist singing great neo-traditional country music with acoustic guitars, fiddle and steel and buying an album at the side of the stage following the performance. And then imagine that the artist you were listening wasn’t some unknown band, but a road-tested Nashville songwriter and musician with many hits under his belt. That is the experience of listening to Wade Hayes brand new album" ..  Read More

Two cuts from the McHayes Album have been added to iTunes and Amazon.com
Wade and Mark McClurg teamed together for a short time as the duo McHayes. Their album, Lessons in Lonely,  was not released to the public. (A shame, really, there was some great music on it.) iTunes and Amazon.com have added two cuts from that project. It Doesn't Mean I Don't Love You, written by Trent Willmon, has Wade singing the lead and Mark doing the high harmony. The Wrong Kind of Right has Mark singing the lead and Wade doing the harmony.
