Next week our speaker is Graham Neville, who will be presenting his talk: Wats in Thailand, and much more besides.
No, this is not a spelling mistake. Wats are Buddhist temples in Thailand. “Wats in Thailand and much more besides” is a travelogue type talk based on a holiday Graham took a number of years ago over Christmas and New Year. The talk starts in Bangkok and moves onto the island of Phuket later. You will see a variety of the country’s architecture as well as some scenery. The decoration on some of the buildings, especially the Grand Palace complex in Bangkok, is stunning.

Here are a few pictures to be going on with: |
This is a Zoom talk and will be zoomed into the clubrooms and to those who watch at home.

Bristol Salon Presentation |
We'd like to apologise to all members, both in the clubroom and on Zoom, who had hoped to see the presentation of the 2025 Bristol Salon last Wednesday. Unfortunately, our main IT guru, Matt de Beger, was away from Bristol which meant that, due to problems that defied all attempts to fix them, and despite the valiant efforts of Jeff (Hargreaves) who tried every trick in the book to make it work, transmission of the show across the airwaves proved to be impossible. As a result, sound and vision was only possible in the clubrooms, with Zoomers receiving sound only.
It has been suggested that we have a second go at showing the presentation later in the season, with 20 August being the preferred date. We will confirm this closer the time.
So, once again, a very big sorry to all.

A reminder that next Digital Imaging Group Meeting is this coming Monday, 9 June at 7.30pm.
Meetings are informal and take place at the clubrooms and via zoom.
Please feel free to share what you have been working on and If anyone would like to show images they have taken at the studio/practical sessions, we would love to see them. There is still room for more images.
Please send them to dig@bristolphoto.org.uk by 5.00pm on Saturday, 7 June. Please number your images in the order you would like them to be viewed and resize to the usual competition size, not essential but helps to keep the files to a manageable size.
A reminder that the next practical evening will be on Monday 14, July. Please look out for details nearer the time in the newsletter.
I look forward to seeing you all.

Competition Closing Dates |
Next Wednesday, 11 June, is the closing date for the President’s Cup and Garmston Bowl panel competitions. If you are entering prints for the Garmston Bowl, don’t forget to upload PDIs of your prints using this link:
The competition rules are shown here:
PRESIDENT’S CUP PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGE COMPETITION
This competition will be judged as a panel of 3 related PDIs on any subject. The images will be displayed at the competition individually, and as a triptych.
The competition is open to all members, excluding holders of ARPS, EFIAP, DPAGB, EPSA and higher distinctions. The winner of the cup will not be eligible to enter the next year’s competition.
For the President’s Cup, a typical entry upload might be: 01_Volley_50X.jpg, 02_Serve_50X.jpg, 03_Backhand_50X.jpg. The software will automatically create the triptych panel.
THE GARMSTON BOWL PRINT COMPETITION
This is open to all members and is for a panel of five related prints on any subject. The entry will be judged as a panel of five.
THE CREATIVE COMPETITION - BOB FARIS TROPHY
Wednesday, 25 June is the closing date for the Creative Competition. Barry Mead will be judging, and it will be good to have a big, healthy entry: composites, ICMs, multiple exposures, sinister penguins (other creatures are eligible) … all welcome.
The competition rules are shown here:
For this competition, a submitted image must have originated as a photographic image or images, produced either in camera or by post processing. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. Artwork or computer graphics created by the entrant may be incorporated so long as the original photographic content predominates. Digital skills should be seen as the tools to compose photographic images into one new single image. The final composition will show the photographer’s artistic interpretation.
- This is an Open
competition, with no levels of entry.
- Images may have been
entered into any previous club competition, except for previous Creative
competitions and may be entered into any subsequent bi-monthly or annual
competition, except for subsequent Creative competitions.
- Each entrant may submit
up to four images. These may be all PDI, all Print or any combination of
the two.
- The judge will select a
Best PDI, a Best Print and award the Bob Faris trophy to one of these two.
- The trophy winner will
not be eligible to enter the next year’s Creative competition.
If you have any questions or problems, please contact the relevant Competition Secretary.

Tony Gill was a member of BPS for many years until ill health forced him to leave. His daughter has asked if I can advertise his photographic equipment, she wrote the following:
Hi, my father (Tony Gill) was a committed member of the Bristol Photographic Society for approx. 30 years, I remember him winning The Garmston Bowl several times! He absolutely loved photography.
